Mildred “Mickie” Kylen Stamp

Mildred “Mickie” Kylen Stamp, of Bethany Beach, DE, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 1, 2014 at Moravian Manor. Born in Pottstown, she was the daughter of the late William Schroeder and Mable (Johnson) Bachman. In August of 1949 she married the late Walter J. Kylen, following his death she married Robert J. Stamp of Florence, SC in 1996.
Mickie graduated from Pottstown High School in 1940 and went on to the Pottstown Hospital School of Nursing where she earned her degree as a registered nurse. Upon graduating from nursing school, she worked as a registered nurse at Emily Bissell Hospital, Wilmington, DE.
Over the years, Mickie took many classes in art and was an avid painter. She was also a very talented organist.
Mickie was very active in the Ocean View Presbyterian Church, Ocean View, DE where she served as an elder, and served on the Executive Committee of the Presbyterian Women of New Castle Presbytery. She also was a member of the choir and was a soloist at the church.
She was also quite active in several clubs: She served as President of the Lord Baltimore Women’s Club and served on the Executive Committee of Delaware State Federation of Women’s Club. Mickie was a member of the Swedish American Society and served as one of the “Colonial Ladies” for the Delaware Tall Ship Days and other historical functions. She also volunteered many hours at the Chambersburg Hospital, Shippensburg Clothing Bank, and Meals on Wheels.
In addition to her husband, Mickie is also survived by her daughter Holly A. Kylen, daughter-in-law Claudia A. Blackburn, of Bethesda, MD; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by 3 siblings: Doris Hart, of Bethany Beach, DE and Betty Comtois, of Pottstown; and a half brother, John R. Schroeder. In addition to her parents and first husband, Mickie is preceded in death by her son, David J. Kylen, 2 sisters, Evelyn Frain and Jean Messimer; 2 half sisters, Katherine Hill and Norma Schroeder; and a half brother, William G. Schroeder, Jr.
A Memorial Service for Mickie will be held at 11AM, on Thursday, December 11, 2014, at the Ocean View Presbyterian Church, 67 Central Ave., Ocean View, DE 19970, with the Rev. Gerald Egger officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Flowers will be accepted at the church or in honor of Mickie’s love for music, memorial contributions may be sent to Moravian Manor Memory Support Activities Program for Music, 300 W. Lemon St., Lititz, PA 17543.

Holly, I was so sorry to hear of Mrs. Mickie’s passing. She was such a kind and caring lady. I so enjoyed her time with us here at the Manor.

Holly, I was so sorry to hear of your mother’s death. From someone at the sidelines, I can say I know you were a great daughter to her and really took care of her…gleaned from hearing tidbits from you over the years, and only once a year at that! In other words, she made a strong impression via your loving conversations about her. I was pleased to see her photo online; you look just like her.
