Condolences to the Family

February 22, 2016

I just came across the obit on facebook.  Mr. M was my homeroom teacher and also had him for some courses at McCaskey.  I had and have the utmost respect for him, a super standup guy who was there for us when we needed him.  My most sincere condolences to all of you in the family.  So sorry this is late    Ken Keener

Dear Irene, and family,

Sorry to have learned late of your husband’s, and father’s, passing. I was so lucky to have known your wonderful and loving family during the times when I still had growing up to do. So many things sometimes taking a lifetime to process and learn. Michael’s life and words reinforce this – “Whatever God wills. If suffering is His will at this time than I accept it; God always knows best.”

It is comforting to know that he reflected this wisdom to all of us who were fortunate to have known him.

Hope to see you all again, God willing. Love and best regards, Dave Hummel

I was sorry to read of the passing of our kind "Mr. Mavrides" and hope he did not have to suffer.  He was a teacher of mine at McCaskey High School.   I remember clearly that as a junior I was not chosen for membership in the National Honor Society.   I remember feeling hurt and wondering what I had done or not done to disqualify me, as I was first in the class.  However, I never said anything to anyone.   One day Mr. Mavrides took me aside an told me he felt badly he had missed a meeting and had it not for that I would have made the Society, which I later did my senior year.  He never would have had to have told me that, but I admired him for it and felt better simply  understanding what had happened.  That was the kind of upstanding and empathetic guy he was.  I never forgot that, and I hope later I was able to follow his example on as I worked with my own students.  Legacies live on.

You have my condolences.
Sandy Frey

Dear Mavrides Family,

I was sorry to read of Mr. Mavrides death.  He was such a nice man and a wonderful teacher.  I had the pleasure of learning Bookkeeping from him at McCaskey High in the late 60s and still benefit from his teachings.  May your memories of this great man help you through your sorrow.

Dear Mrs. Mavrides and Family. I am truly sorry to learn of Michael’s passing. It was a pleasure for me to work with him at McCaskey High School. He was one of the most dedicated teachers with whom I worked. I knew that he loved his teaching profession and the youngsters whom he helped so much. His coutenance and demeanor always showed that he was entirely happy And, he not only taught youngsters in the classroom, he taught them in the corridors, the cafeteria and throughout the school by the way he conducted himself–always courteous, always kind, always soft-spoken, and always with a smile on his face. I know that he was totally appreciated by his students , his fellow teaching professionals and certainly by me, his Principal.

I send you my genuine condolences and pray that you will find comfort in the wonderful memories you have of the many years you and Michael shared together. Charlie Lohin

Dear Irene,

My heart goes out to you and to your family at this sad time, Mike was such a loving, upbeat person who sincerely cared for others. You and he were the ideal couple. Take comfort in the knowledge that others really care.

Sincerely,
Susan Luek

Michael has a special place in my heart.  I worked with him for many years and I thought of him not just as a boss, but more importantly as a mentor and Friend.  Michael watched my son grow up and recently Ken was able to speak to Michael and John at the Columbia Diner.

My heart is heavy right now, but I am also thinking of the many wonderful memories.  One thing that always stood out in my mind is how much I never wanted to hear Michael tell that he was disappointed in me or something I did.  It was like hearing my own father say it to me.

May all of his family know how special he hs been to many people.  I’m sure many more than you can ever know.

I am so glad that Michael enriched my life.

Mavrides Family,

So very sorry to see your Dad had passed away. Many good memories growing up next to your family in Northbrook Hills. The Corner Gang. My parents are both gone, Mom last year & Dad this April. Very hard becoming the oldest generation, often want to call them about things. Hope the coming days and months get easier, letting go of the sorrow and enjoying the memories. Hope you are all okay.
