Michael David Brown, 67

September 08, 2017

Michael David Brown, age 67, died of agent orange related cancer on September 8, 2017 at the Lebanon VA Hospital. Michael was born October 19, 1949 in Lancaster, PA to Hayes Brown and Margaret Helene Brown who predeceased him. Michael is survived by his daughter, Christine Anderton (Brown), grandson Jeffrey Anderton, son-in-law Jeff Anderton, brother Anthony Brown and sister Jill Turpack (Brown). Michael also leaves behind his beloved Yorkie, Sandy in the care of his daughter.

Michael was a Marine Veteran of the Vietnam war where he was awarded two Purple Hearts, the Combat Action Medal, the Vietnamese Service Medal, the Vietnamese Campaign Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
Michael served with distinction in Vietnam as a rifleman and squad leader in some of the fiercest and most deadly combat operations in the war and fought with such ferocity that his platoon commander, (future FBI director) Lt. Robert Mueller gave him the nickname “Mad Dog.”

As a returning combat veteran, Michael struggled with PTSD, but found relief in following Teddy Roosevelt’s advice that “black care rarely stays with a rider whose pace is fast enough”, and became an accomplished sailor who sailed his boat into the Atlantic in the roughest of weather because he believed that’s where his boat and he belonged. Michael was also a skilled amateur middle weight boxer with a good jab and a right hand that could knock an opponent out with one punch. Michael is also a motor enthusiast and loved sports cars and driving across the country in his motor home. Before his retirement, Michael was a real estate broker and co-owner of Advantage Realty.

A Celebration of Michael’s Life will be held on Thursday, September 14, 2017 from 6-8PM at Rocky Springs Entertainment Center. A Military Burial for Michael will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, September, 15, 2017 at Millersville Mennonite Cemetery, 435 Manor Street, Millersville, PA.

Condolences to the Family

My heart is broken. My friend for over 40 years has passed away.
Michael was larger than life. He gave 110% to everthing he did or wanted to learn. Then he mastered it.
I’ll always remember the great times we had, his exasperating dry sense of humor and the way he always made me laugh.
Tony, Jill & Family- I am so sorry for your loss of Michael.
Take care,
Cinthia K. Graver Rathvon

My condolences go out to Mike’s family. I am sorry that my good friend Mike is gone. I’m going to miss him but never forget him. Mike and I were friends since we were young long before he was a Marine. We hung around together listened to music and went to dances. We grew up and worked together. I was Mike’s helper at Armstrong. I can’t forget Mike’s love for vettes. I’ll miss all the times we talked and laughed. Mike was the type of person that accomplished whatever he set his mind to do. I consider Mike not only a good friend but a true hero. Mike your suffering is over. Rest In Peace. Peter Tirado

Christine, my deepest sympathies are with you and your family.  Mike was a never-ending force in  my life. No matter what, I knew if ever I needed anything he would be there for me.  I am glad I was able to, if on a small level, be there for him.  I miss knowing he will no longer be on the earth but, I am thankful he no will no longer have to suffer.
Peace be with you and Mike. May his soul fly freely over the oceans and soar as high as the sun to warm his spirit.

Christine,
I’m so sorry for your loss.
Mike and I grew up together. Our mothers were best friends so I have known him all my life.  We exchanged letters when he was in Viet Nam and he sent me pictures (from his time there) which i found many years later and returned to him.  He was thrilled to get them back although I’m sure he forgot all about them.   We also share the same birthday so even when our lives led us in different directions i woulld always send him a birthday phone message and he would do the same.  in the last several years we kept in contact on a regular basis. He was so proud of you and Jeffrey. Mike was a good guy and a great friend.  i feel so lucky to have had him as my friend.
