Michael A. Griffis, 32

Michael A. Griffis. His smile and his dimples lit up the world. Heaven needed more light, so our Father called him Home unexpectedly on September 16, 2007.

Born on August 12, 1994 in Reading, PA, Michael’s parents were Mary Ann Griffis-Robins and Derek Robins of Willow Street and James Griffis and Nadine Findley of Quarryville.

A 7th grade student at Resurrection Catholic School, Michael wanted to be a savior of the planet, and become a natural environmental scientist. He wanted to help the people of the world.

Michael attended Native American Pow Wows. He enjoyed going to Kids Kamp this summer, and was labeled the Dance King and Karate Board-Breaking King of camp. Michael was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lancaster, and also attended St. Catherine Catholic Church in Quarryville. He also attended the San Juan Bautista after-school program. He always thought of others before himself.

He loved drawing with color and pencil, photography, and astronomy. His favorite colors were red, white and blue. He also loved reading the Bible, the outdoors, hiking and camping and cooking fried bread.

Surviving in addition to his parents are two brothers: Eliezer A. Griffis of Willow Street; and Darren J. Rineer of Quarryville; maternal grandfather, August Barros of Carver, MA; paternal grandmother, Edna Griffis of Fort Pierce, FL; grandparents, Clyde and Erma Hoover of Lititz; aunts; uncles; and cousins.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the viewing on Thursday evening from 6:00-9:00 p.m. at Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home, 441 N. George St., Millersville, PA. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday morning at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, S. Prince & Vine Sts., Lancaster, PA, followed by interment in St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Quarryville. Please omit flowers; contributions in Michael’s memory may be sent to Kids Kamp, c/o Council of Drug and Alcohol Abuse, 630 Janet Ave., Lancaster, PA 17601; Resurrection Catholic School, 32 West Vine Street, Lancaster, PA 17602 or Lancaster County Conservancy, 117 South West End Avenue, PO Box 716, Lancaster, PA 17608.
