Maxine J. “MJ” Geller
December 16, 2024
Maxine J. “MJ” Geller of Lancaster passed away Monday, December 16, 2024, at her home. Born in York, she was the daughter of the late Karl T. and late Sally K. Hammels. She was the true love and soul mate of Robert E. Geller with whom she shared nearly 60 years of marriage.
She graduated from William Penn Senior High School and York College of PA.
MJ radiated a loving energy felt by everyone she met and was always very welcoming to new friends. She took pride in raising her family and spending time with her sons, grandchildren and family dogs (all collies).
MJ loved dancing to all types of music, especially Motown hits and popular music of all decades, and she never turned down a line dance. After meeting her husband Bob out dancing, they went dancing together on many weekends since. Over the years she also enjoyed bowling, pinochle and blackjack.
In addition to her husband Bob, MJ will be lovingly remembered by her son Michael, his wife Katherine and their daughters Zoe and Maisie of Takoma Park, MD; her brother Dale Hammels and his wife Miriam of York; and her grandsons Colin and Harrison. She is predeceased by her son Kory.
Funeral services will be held at the Charles F. Snyder, Jr., Funeral Home & Crematory, 414 E. King Street, Lancaster, PA 17602 on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at 11 AM with Rabbi Abba Leeder officiating. A visitation with the family will occur between 10 AM to 11 AM prior to the service. Interment will follow at Degel Israel Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the staff at Visiting Angels for their excellent care and support over the past several weeks. In lieu of flowers, contributions in MJ.’s memory may be made to Cure Alzheimer’s Fund (https://curealz.org/).
Shiva will be held at the home of Robert Geller on Thursday, December 19 from 2 PM to 5 PM and Friday, December 20 from 10 AM to 2 PM.

Dear Michael and Family,
So sorry to hear of the loss of your mom. I fondly remember her volunteering in your kindergarten class (1983-1984). You were one of my favorite students, which was a reflection on how you were raised.
Deepest Sympathy,
Mrs. Stephan

Hi Bob…it’s Denny Robbins…I read in the Lancaster paper that Maxine passed away the other day…I just want to tell you how sorry we are. Kathe and I are doing ok, given our advanced age. I remember all the good times we had in our younger days with a wonderful group of friends!
