Mary Herr, 90
June 08, 2024
Mary Herr, 90, formerly of Millersville, went home to be with the Lord on June 8, 2024, at Quarryville Presbyterian Home in Quarryville, PA. Born on May 27, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Almaretta Roland. She was married to Bill Herr from October 18, 1953, until he passed away on August 23, 2010.
Mary was working at Armstrong World Industries, Inc., at Lancaster delivering mail to the different departments where she met Bill. They got married and she lived with Bill and his dad, Roy, on a farm near Millersville. In November 1956 they had a son, Billy.
Mary worked numerous part-time jobs, including Comet Drive In, Herr’s Fruit Farm, Country Cousins, and others.
Bill and Mary moved to a new home on the farm property. Billy and his wife Linda moved into the old farmhouse in 1978.
Mary loved the color red, playing games, 500 Rum and Dominoes, watching game shows, and the Phillies. She loved cats, quilts and getting together with family and friends.
In her later years she enjoyed eating at Conestoga Wagon Restaurant on Saturdays with her niece, Carollynn Pettis and others, then going to Main Street Closet Thrift Store. Mary attended Smithville Church of God. On Sundays Mary enjoyed a meal and visiting with nephew Rick Wallace, wife Deb, and daughter Amy.
Mary is survived by her son Billy, husband of Linda, Grandchildren Jason Herr of Millersville and Lisa Cahill, wife of Ryan, and Great-Grand Child Declan Cahill of Lancaster. Also, brother, Dick Roland, and various nieces and nephews and their families. She was preceded in passing by her sisters Carol Rhinier and Peggy Wallace.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Quarryville Presbyterian Home and Hospice & Community Care for taking such good care of Mary. Also, much appreciation to the many friends and relatives who spent time with Mary during her stay at Quarryville.
The Memorial Service will be held at Smithville Church of God, 595 Pennsy Road, New Providence with Pastor Gerald Frey officiating on Saturday June 22nd, at 2:00 pm. A time of greeting will begin one hour prior to service at 1pm. There will be refreshments after.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice & Community Care of Lancaster, PO Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604.

To All Mary’s Family;
We send our deepest sympathy. My sister and I are the remain family members of the Rager’s. Mary worked for our parents, who operated the Comet Drive-In (Also the Sky View Drive-In). Mary was a unique person and loved by all.

I was born and grew up on the Abe Dombach farm down the road from Bill and Mary’s Farm. Our “swimming hole” was out the front door of Bill and Mary’s home where the big and little Conestoga come together. They had grown to be like second parents. I’m sad to say after moving I thought of them often but just never got to see them like I should have up on “the hill”. I wanted to ride up there many times, but I didn’t want to frighten Mary because I was on my motorcycle. Godspeed and may their souls rest in peace. Clyde Shenk

“Aunt Mary” will be missed so much by her family and friends. She was a true servant of the Lord and made us all smile every time we were with her. My favorite story she told us was the time she was watching one of her grandchildren and she saw the end of the rainbow appear in her back yard… they went out and ran around in it until it disappeared. I envision her in heaven running around those streets of gold, rejoicing in her Savior!
