Mary E. Proseus, 91

Mary E. Proseus, 91, of Landisville, PA (formerly of Rochester, NY) passed away peacefully on October 29, 2014 at Mennonite Home surrounded by her family following a beautiful prayer led by the chaplain. Born in Madison, WI, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Emma (Scherer) Dickert. Mary was the loving wife of Richard A. Proseus with whom she was happily married to for 68 years.
Mary was a devout Catholic and received communion regularly from Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. She sang in the choir and was a lector at St. John the Evangelist Church in Rochester, NY. She was an avid reader and enjoyed helping first grade students develop their reading skills. She enjoyed traveling to Europe and Korea. Mary adored spending time with her family and loved ballroom dancing with her husband.
In addition to her husband, Richard, Mary is survived by 4 daughters: Margaret M. Proseus of Canandaigua, NY, Barbara P. Ives, wife of Joseph L., of Landisville, PA, Judith P. Safranski, wife of Gerald, of Newark, DE and Mary P. Bell, wife of Hiram, of Odenton, MD; 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; and close family friend, Dr. Pamela Tarkington of Canandaigua, NY.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Dickert; and 2 brothers, Joseph and Edward Dickert.
Mary’s family would like to thank all of the staff at Mennonite Home who not only provided their mother with excellent care each and every day, but also provided her with their love.
A viewing will take place from 8-8:45 AM on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at St. John the Evangelist Church, 553 Humboldt St., Rochester, NY 14610 with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 9:00 AM. Interment will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Rochester, NY. Please OMIT flowers. A Memorial Service will be held at 10 AM on November 12, 2014 in the Chapel at the Mennonite Home, 1520 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster, PA 17601. Contributions may be made in Mary’s memory to St. John the Evangelist Church or to the Mennonite Home, 1520 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster, PA 17601.
