Condolences to the Family

Janis, I just now received notice of Martin’s passing.  We have lost a very good brother in Christ.  I will always remember how welcoming he was of me and our family when I became pastor at Zion in East Pete.  And I remember all the good comments about him and you from those who were members of Zion in Landisville during your thirty years with them.  From my experience at Zion Eat Pete I know that Marty and you were equally good as members of the church.
and, of course, Marty will always be special for me because he invited me to play basketball with the old guys.  He really did enjoy playing basketball and even when his legs got a little slow when reached 80 years old, his hands were quick to steal the ball and I remember that many times it was Marty who sank the winning basket in our games,
May the Lord bless you and keep you, May the Lord make his face to shine upon you, May the Lord lift up his countenance upon you….and give you peace!!!

It truly was a blessing for our family to have been shepherded by Pastor Swartz during the twenty-three years of his ministry at Zion Lutheran in Landisville, and it was my privilege to have served the congregation under his leadership.  He baptized two of our children, confirmed all three, and presided over the marriage of our two daughters.  (And besides, he presented quite a striking figure at our congregation’s one and only ladies’ fashion show!)  Rest in glorious peace, Pastor Swartz!

Warmest regards and deepest sympathies to Janice and Family,
A man of great faith, Marty was a warm and special guy, who will be  missed by all who knew and loved him.  His ready smile brightened the day of all whom he met; his love of sports, especially basketball, brought great fun to his life.  Clearly his family was the heart and soul of his being.  May chrerished memories of the special gifts he brought to life and living, comfort you now and in the days to come.

Dear Janis, John, Jeffrey, siblings, grands, and others dear to Marty: Grace and Peace from our Lord Jesus! We go back a long way to the late 50’s when Marty was our classmate at Lenoir-Rhyne College (now U.) in Hickory, NC, and when we both were interns at Lutheran congregations in Charlotte, NC, 1963-64. We share with you the sorrow of his death, but also the joy of knowing he’s whole and well and now “forever with the Lord.” May you know God’s comfort and support.
In Christ’s love, David & Diana Keck

I am sorry to hear about Mr. Swartz’s passing. My sympathies to the Swartz family. He was a special person who I was fortunate to know growing up.  I really loved his sense of humor and his wit. Growing up next to the Swartz’s spending countless hours with the family was a real treat and I have many fond memories. Unfortunately, I will not be able to make the service.  My thoughts and prayers are with the Swartz family.

Janis, please accept condolences from Janice and me.  Martie was a seminary classmate and good friend.  He, Art Mentzer and I had a lot of discussions about many things.  I have good memories about Marty, and I trust that you do, too.  May those memories and God’s love sustain you.    Fred Bigelow
