Marie G. Kenna, 91

December 28, 2013

Marie G. Kenna, 91, of Lancaster, PA, passed away peacefully at home on December 28, 2013. Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Sarah (Reardon) Garvin. Marie was the wife of the late Dr. Joseph P. Kenna with whom she celebrated 62 years of marriage.

After she graduated Rosemont College, Marie worked in newspaper advertising. Following her marriage to Joseph Kenna, she raised four children and acted as manager for her husband’s medical practice. She also earned her real estate license. She was the Alumni Director for 10 years at Rosemont College. When Marie was in retirement mode, she volunteered at Matthew 25 Thrift Shop in Lititz, PA. Marie loved wintering in Florida. She was an avid reader and crossword connoisseur. Marie enjoyed her frequent reunions with the Rosemont Girls: Mary Louise O’Brien and Connie Wolfert whom were her lifetime best friends.

Marie will be remembered by her family, friends and new acquaintances for her quick wit and sense of humor.

Surviving are four children: Joseph J., husband of Barbara K. Kenna, Exton, PA, Diane M. Kenna, Stone Harbor, NJ, Karen M. Kenna, Lancaster, PA and Dr. Denise M. Kenna-Hagan, wife of Dr. Mark C. Hagan, York, PA; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Therese Murray of Gig Harbor, Washington.

Marie was preceded in death by two brothers: John and Joseph Garvin; and a sister Bernice Garvin.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at St. John Neumann Catholic Church with Rev. Michael Letteer as Celebrant. Family and friends will be received from 9-10 AM at the church. Private Interment will take place in Saint Peter & Saint Paul Cemetery, Springfield, PA. I’d like to extend my deepest sympathies to Marie’s family. Some years ago I had the distinct pleasure of helping Marie and Joe with home cleaning services and thoroughly enjoyed their company. Their memories are my treasures! You will all be in my prayers.

Please accept my hearfelt sympathy to you, Diane, Joe, Denise, and Karen.
When I think of your Mom, I can still hear her say my name with an extended long e at the end. By adding that extra syllable, she helped me stand a little taller and feel a bit more substantial.
Know that my best thoughts are with you all, and as you gather your best memories of your Mom, remember she was probably happiest when you were smiling.
Sincerely,
Lee Bryan Pfeiffer
