Margaret Nelle Shelby Garland
November 27, 2022
Margaret Nelle Shelby Garland, of Lancaster, PA passed away November 27, 2022. She was born to the late Ernest and Barbara Shelby in Houston Texas. Margaret was a loving mother, grandmother and wife who spent her life raising and caring for her family.
Margaret, also known as Nana to all, loved to sew, quilt and crochet; she quilted and crocheted blankets and crocheted animals, or critters as she called them, for her grandchildren. She also spent many years as a member of a quilting group. She enjoyed spending her leisure time doing color by numbers on her tablet or watching the masked singer on TV. She also loved watching her favorite football team, the Dallas Cowboys. Never missed a game. She also had a passion for cooking with her favorite accessories like an air fryer, instant pot, and crockpot. Margaret had a great sense of humor, and she was the sweetest soul with never a cross word. She was loved immensely and will be greatly missed by many.
She is survived by her children Phyllis E. Shelby of Lancaster and Phillip J. Shelby of Conroe TX; her stepchildren, James L. Garland of Leola, Timothy J. Garland of Towson MD, Philip R. Garland of Lancaster, Christopher R. Garland of Swartzville, and Jennifer Garland Clark (Gregg) of Ft. Lauderdale FL; and her 13 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren who she loved with all her heart. Along with her parents, she is preceded in her passing by her husband Richard A. Garland.

I have so many fond memories of our high school days at Friendswod High School in the late 50s. She was in my brother Arden’s class and two years older than I. So much fun at her parents’ home with slumber parties, pool parties and especially riding in her red convertible to the Houston Fat Stock rodeo. We lost touch for many years and thankful to have reconnected through Facebook. Prayers for comfort for Margaret Nelle’s family as you share in your beautiful memories. Phyllis, I held you as an infant.
