Margaret J. “Meg” Zapata, 55

December 02, 2023

Margaret J. “Meg” Zapata, 55, of Lancaster passed away peacefully Saturday, December 2, 2023 from natural causes surrounded by her loving family. Born in Springfield, PA she was the daughter of Carol (Sutcliffe) Jenkins and the late Dr. Thomas Jenkins. She was the loving wife of William D. “Zap” Zapata with whom she just celebrated 25 years of marriage on November 27th.

She was a 1986 graduate of Hempfield High School. Meg later went on to graduate in 1990 as valedictorian from Muhlenberg College with a Bachelor’s degree in Education and received her Master’s degree from the University of Delaware in 1996. Meg worked in the Hempfield School District at the Landisville Middle School and High School where she was part of the National Honor Society, Student Assistance Team, and part of the Literary Magazine.

Meg enjoyed crafts, reading, bible study, tutoring and providing writing support for others, redesigning, organizing, beach trips, but most of all her greatest joy was spending time with her family.

Meg was a woman of strong faith, nourishing that faith as a member of St Edward’s Episcopal Church.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her two children: Aaron P. Zapata, fiancé of Jade Fritsch and Madeline M. Zapata. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Gavin J. Fritsch, Giandra T. Zapata, and Drogan D. Henne; two brothers, Andrew S. Jenkins and Matthew A. Jenkins, husband of Carmen and a host of loving nieces, nephews, and extended family. She was preceded in death by her beloved dogs, Hatter, Lucy, and Shelby.

Meg was loved and had many cherished friends, along with a positive attitude of life.

A Funeral Service will be held at 12PM on Saturday, December 16, 2023 at St. Edward’s Episcopal Church, 2453 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster, PA 17601 with Rev. Dr. Richard C. Bauer as officiant. Interment will follow at Conestoga Memorial Park. A visitation will be held at the church from 10:30AM-11:45AM.
