Lt. Lawrence H. Brown, 76

Lt. Lawrence H. Brown, 76, died of natural causes at his East Lampeter Twp. home on Monday, February 21, 2011. Lieutenant Brown retired from the Lancaster City Police Department in 1996 after 37 years of service. He was in charge of the juvenile detective division and had been a platoon commander.

Born in Columbia, Larry, or “Bumper”, was the son of the late Lawrence William             Brown and Verti Jelly Brown Nitroy. He graduated from J.P. McCaskey High School in 1953 and then attended the University of Maryland on a wrestling Scholarship and Gettysburg College on a football scholarship. Larry completed his police training at the PA State Police Academy in Hershey.

He was a member of Lancaster Elks Lodge #134 B.P.O.E. Larry enjoyed art, spending time with his grandchildren and traveling, especially to Disney World.

Surviving Larry is his wife of 56 years Anna Mary D’Annunzio Brown, Lancaster; children Timothy A. Brown, Lancaster, and Robinette Olzacki, Boston, MA; Daughter-in-law, Julie A. Brown, Lancaster; grandchildren, Anthony B. Brown, Odessa N. Brown, Laura D. Brown and Lawrence H. Brown, III, all of Lancaster, Katie J. Head, Virginia, Frances K. Askey, York, and Zach A. Graybill, Boston, MA; and 3 great-grandchildren.

Larry’s sons Lawrence H. Brown, Jr. and Benjamin R. Brown, granddaughter Lanae A. Brown and his siblings Donald and Robert Brown and Beverly Jean Hiltz preceded him in death.

A Viewing will take place Monday, February 28, 2011 from 10 to 11 AM, followed by the Funeral, with The Rev. Allan F. Wolfe officiating, at 11 AM at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 414 E. King St., Lancaster, PA. Interment will be in Riverview Burial Park with Police Honors. Please omit flowers. Dear Dad, I love and miss you still.

this is gerry gaenzle -just wanted to extend my sympathies to the family at this time

I served 25 years with Larry on the Lancaster Police Department. He was always a credit to the public and police department itself.  He was a very dedicated, professional individual who I respected a great deal. He has left me with many working memories.  He was well liked.

   May the family members be comforted by the many warm thoughts he has left with you. I’ll always be thankful for knowing Larry.   He touched many lives during his time served with the Lancaster Bureau of Police  Allow me to offer my condolences.   God bless .
