Lorraine Formica, 84
August 26, 2019
Lorraine “Rainey” Formica, 84, formerly of Lancaster, passed away surrounded by her loving family at Masonic Village, on Monday, August 26, 2019. She was born in McAdoo, Schuylkill County to the late Thomas A. and Anna (Zapotocky) Buckta. Lorraine enjoyed 46 years of marriage with her husband Carmen N. Formica before his death on January 27, 2000.
She graduated from Hazleton High School, and after raising her eight children, she was a kitchen worker for Rolex and a cook for Burger King. Lorraine worked hard for her family and friends, always thinking of others first. Lorraine always had a kind or encouraging word for others, and she shared her thirst for knowledge. Her mantra will be lovingly remembered: high school, college, marriage, and then babies. She had lots of friends everywhere she lived, which continued when she resided at Brethren Village and then at Masonic Village. Lorraine enjoyed befriending the staff at Masonic Village and assisting them with her care; she was very undemanding.
A faithful Catholic, Lorraine was a member of several parishes throughout her life, where she served as a cantor, taught CCD classes, and served on funeral luncheon committees. She readily shared her faith and prayed for her family and her friends.
Lorraine is survived by seven children: Ellie, wife of Michael Hennessey of Cranberry Township, PA; Carmine, wife of Todd Zima of Lancaster, PA; Carmen G. Formica, husband of Christine of Elizabethtown, PA; D. Thomas Formica, husband of Sharon of Wilkes-Barre, PA; Richard Formica of Mount Joy, PA; David C. Formica, husband of Sharon of Leola, PA; and Joseph J. Formica, husband of Pamela of Lititz, PA in addition to 19 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Lorraine was preceded in death by her daughter Maryann Harris who died June 23, 2000, and her sister Eleanor Buckta.
A memorial service will take place Saturday, September 7 at 10AM in the Roosevelt Assembly Room on first floor at Masonic Village Health Care Center, Ben Franklin Building, 600 Freemason Drive, Elizabethtown, PA. Lorraine’s family will greet guests beginning at 9:30 in the Assembly Room. Private interment took place in Conestoga Memorial Park on August 30, 2019. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider making a donation in Lorraine’s memory to the Masonic Village Compassionate Care Fund, Gift Planning Office, One Masonic Drive, Elizabethtown, PA 17022.
