Lois R. Miller, 87

July 08, 2025

Lois R. Miller, 87, of Lancaster, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 8, 2025. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Thomas J. and Alta Elma Hostetter Rainar. Lois graduated from Lancaster Catholic High School, class of 1955. She worked as the secretary for the Manheim Township Commissioners for decades. She was a faithful member of St. Phillip the Apostle Catholic Church, Lancaster for the past 30 years. She enjoyed word puzzles and monthly get-togethers with high school friends. Lois’s greatest joy was her family. She regularly attended sporting events and music performances for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and she enjoyed cooking and hosting family gatherings for birthdays and holidays. Traveling to the beach with her family was a tradition that carried on for over 40 years, including just a few weeks ago. She was always in her element in a beach chair with her toes in the sand and a crossword in her hand.

Lois is survived by her five children, Jere A. Miller Jr., Joanne M. Gorman, Jeffrey T. husband of Louise Miller, Julie A. wife of Robert Wash, and Jacquelyn L. wife of Michael Sweeney, as well as thirteen grandchildren, Kaley Miller Cook, Torie Miller, Harry Gorman, Ellie Gorman Lawson, R. Wade Gorman, Isabel Miller, Luke Miller, Robert Wash II, Leah Wash, J. Alexander Wash, Megan Sweeney, Sean Sweeney, and Fiona Sweeney, and seven great-grandchildren, Theodor Trevino, Elliott Trevino, Julie Wash II, Samuel Trevino, Lux Edds, Coen Cook, and Colby Cook. Preceding her in death is a grandson, M. Jack Sweeney.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Phillip the Apostle Catholic Church, 2111 Millersville Pike, Lancaster, PA 17603, on Tuesday, July 22, 2025 at 11:00 AM. There will be a time of visitation with the family from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Interment will be in St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery, Lancaster. Those desiring may send contributions in Lois’s memory to Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute.
