Lloyd Elias Scalyer, 87
May 27, 1936 - January 09, 2024
Lloyd Elias Scalyer was born in Brooklyn, NY on May 27, 1936. He passed away January 9, 2024, after a brief illness. Son of the late Marc and Ruth (Rogalsky) Scalyer, he was born into the Jewish faith, and became a Christian in his 30’s. In New York he had been a cement mason, eventually owning a flooring installation company, and he also served in the New York Army National Guard as a cook.
In 1968 he purchased a chicken farm in Lancaster County, and with his family and in-laws turned it into a highly successful motel, the Cherry Lane Motor Inn. He was a great businessman, but his true passions were his family and encouragement by the Scriptures. He was a long-time elder at Lancaster Evangelical Free Church, and Spiritual Leader of the Seed of Abraham Congregation, and his family.
He loved all things family related. He loved spending time with his wife at their cabin on Lake Wallenpaupack, where he would bring the family together for long weekends of boating and board games. For many years he enjoyed Spring fishing trips to Maine with his father-in-law and son. He loved sincerely and gave the world’s best hugs.
He is preceded in death by his son, Gregg and his sister, Judee. Lloyd is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Judith, daughter Gwenn wife of Eric, son Gavin, daughter Glory wife of Stuart, grandson Gabrielle, granddaughter Savannah, grandson Zack, great-granddaughters Sienna and Olivia, and his sister Ann.
A public memorial will be planned for in the Spring. A family only service will be held graveside.

Lloyd was our childhood friend in Brooklyn in the 40’s
Anne and Judy were also. After he moved away we lost track of him until we stayed at his cherry lane motel. He contacted my mother once when he accepted Yeshua as his messiah. I am thankful that he now is a resident with his Lord, that is a joy for us. I remember with great fondness our childhood together. Our condolences to His family. Yours in the joy of our messiah, The Lord Yeshua (Jesus)….

Judy, and Gwen, we were very sad and sorry to learn of Lloyd’s passing from the Sunday paper mid January. Our deepest sympathies as you make the difficult adjustment to life without hubbie and Dad. Our prayers are with you all. We remember his Passover meal with explaination and discussions of the tabernacle. He was the one who told me the exodus wilderness camp looked like cross from above. May God be an ever present comfort and give you strength for each day.

Dear Judith, Gavin, Gwen, and Glory:
Being part of your eternal family for the last twenty years has been an honor and a great privilege. Having Lloyd as a pastor, mentor, and friend is one of the highlights of my life, and I also feel the void left in your hearts. God is delighted to have Lloyd with Him, and we are comforted by the sure knowledge that Lloyd is glad to be loosed from the frailty of the flesh and to enjoy the eternal benefits of a spiritual body.
For those of us waiting still for that glorious transition, we can all be comforted knowing that God has a definite purpose and plan for our remaining time in this realm. He will lovingly comfort us and lead us into His further plans for our lives. We can rest assured that God is the God of all comfort and will supply all our needs.
Let us do as Lloyd did and look ever upward. I shall always treasure the service when Lloyd was given a vision of our Lord and Savior. Judith, you comforted me greatly after Alta Ada was taken home through the vision you had. I would like to be able to have something similar to share with you, but I do not yet. Nonetheless, I shall do all I can to continue Lloyd and Judith’s ministry through the examples you gave to your flock.
With love, prayers for blessing and comfort, and a commitment to keep the spirit of the Seed alive and well in our hearts.

There are no words to describe the heartache and void Lloyd’s sudden passing has left for us. Lloyd exemplified the joy of being Jewish while embracing Messiah Yeshua Who has come (Isaiah 53) and will soon return. Lloyd was such a huge part of our lives — comforting during difficulty, offering countless blessings and prayers over our family and grandchildren, loving our “Shaina Velt” Makayla and giving her such wonderful times at Seed, celebrating beautiful Pesach Seders and the Jewish High Holy Days….too many memories to mention. Judith – our rebbetzin – todah thankyou for always being by his (and our) side; loving your husband and our mishpochah endlessly…showing us your beautiful smile and heart-hearty laugh through the bad times and good. We are here for you, as you have always been there for us. The love and devotion you and Lloyd had for one another modeled HaShem’s love for us, and we are so grateful for your strength and inspiration. May G-d bless you and your precious family during this very difficult time. Shiva can last for much longer than seven days – know that we are here for you always – G-d counts your tears and will comfort you with a shalom which surpasses understanding. Our love and deepest condolences go with you. BARUCH HaSHEM ADONAI. Kimmel and Stephanie

Dear Judith and Family, What a void we will all feel at the passing of our dear friend, Lloyd. I thank G-D, that we got to spend a long afternoon dinner a short time ago. What a good time and conversation we had! Its always interesting talking to Lloyd! And too you too Judith. We love hearing about your time in Brooklyn, when you and Lloyd met and married. Judith the Love you had for each other was so obvious. The Pet names you called each other are so sweet. I can’t walk side by side holding Michaels hand without thinking of you and Lloyd. You know why. You and Lloyd are such an inspiration to so many people. He was a man of G- D bringing us to the loving knowledge of Yeshua, Now he is walking with him. I can see his big beautiful smile! We pray for you and your family that your pain and sorrow is short and the memories of your amazing Husband, Father, Grandfather bring that same big smile to all of you. He was a blessing to all who knew him.
Love and Shalom, Michael and Connie

Dear Judith and Gavin and the rest of Lloyd’s family:
When Betsy Shatto told me about Lloyd’s death, I felt sadness and regret. Sadness, because this world lost a good Christian who loved the Lord and who was a testimony to God’s goodness. Regret, because it had been years since I last saw Lloyd and in all these years, I did not reach out to him. I know I would have liked to have seen him again.
Lloyd has a special place in my life since I moved here to Lancaster. He was my Pastor for around 13 years at Seed of Abraham, the longest I have lasted in any church here. It is one of the few churches where I felt I belonged as a Jewish believer in Jesus.
I pray for you and for the rest of your family, for God’s comfort in your time of loss and for His continual encouragement with the truth that the one you love and lost is home now. He is now where he belongs. I pray God encourage you with this truth and comfort you with His presence. I hope to see you at the Spring memorial service for Lloyd. In Jesus’ love, Susan
