Lisa was my first love. Even after our high school romance we remained close friends. More than that really, she ran with me and my friends. She was very much one of the guys and fit in because she demanded respect. Lisa had a heart and directness that was disarming. While our paths diverted after BHS, I last saw her last in 1991 when my wife and I were wed. As a distant Facebook friend I followed her career with keen interest. I am a professional salesperson and her writing on communication and public speaking is a revelation. I regret never reconnecting with Lisa and hope for peace and healing with those who loved her.

I am deeply shocked by the news of Lisa’s passing. She was a very interesting professor, and she was especially one of the most understanding and helpful teachers I’ve encountered in my freshman year at Millersville 2 years ago. I know she was dealing with such hardships, like the multiple knee surgeries she had to endure, and she still was such a sight to see every single week. I will never forget her class and her chipper personality, she was truly something special. I am so sorry for her boys and her family for their loss. I know she will be talking about her boys in Heaven as much as she did during speech class. I hope the best for Dylan and Nathan, as they will achieve great heights, just as she did in her short time, with her watching them always. She will forever be remembered as a wonderful teacher, person, and mother. My prayers go out to her sons and the rest of her family. -Jordan Tunall

I am shocked and deeply saddened by the news that Lisa passed away on July 4th.  Lisa and I commuted to Lincoln (about an hour drive from Omaha) because we were both pursuing our doctorate degree at the University of Nebraska.  One evening, on our drive home, I told Lisa that I wasn’t feeling well and needed to stop at a rest area.  I told her she could wait in the car, but she said she was going with me because it wasn’t safe for me to be alone.   Lisa was a strong, fearless, and caring person.   My deepest sympathy to Dylan, Nathan, and her family.    Ana Cruz

Sending my condolences to Lisa’s family. It is very sad to hear of her passing. I know Lisa because of our common interests in complementary and holistic medicine. I always think of Lisa as the first person in communication to write about this topic. She was always so warm and wonderful to see at conferences. Evelyn Ho

I was so shocked and sorry to hear of Lisa’s passing. She always was such a gentle voice and a cheery spirit during the many challenges and frustrations of grad school. When we were at Nebraska together she always had an encouraging word to offer and her spirit was always so uplifting…she had a way of making you walk away refreshed after engaging with her and challenged to be a better person. What a blessing she was to all who knew her…Nancy Brule

Lisa was a dynamo in the Department of Communication and Theatre at Millersville University;  During her time here, she has left a legacy of advocacy for public speaking and communication competence, for service learning, and a love of teaching and her students that they have returned in kind.  Her absence will be deeply felt by department and university colleagues, and from students who benefitted from her support.                          Theresa Russell-Loretz

I can’t believe the news of Lisa’s passing. During our days together at UNL, she was always a shining beacon. Her smile and positive perspective was contagious.  Her work ethic was so impressive. I still don’t know how she balanced a newborn AND doctoral work. Much love to her family and children during this painful time. Loreen Olson
