Leslie B. Underwood, 92

August 14, 1925 - June 25, 2018

Leslie Brown Underwood, 92, was born August 14, 1925 in Floyd County, VA to the late Thomas and Mary Underwood and passed away peacefully, Monday, June 25, 2018. Les was married for over 60 years to Vera (Miller) Underwood, who died in December 2017.
Les was a proud veteran of World War II and received numerous medals and awards such as the La Croix De Guerre, Distinguished Unit Badge with the Oak Leaf Cluster, European, African, Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 5 bronze starts, Man of War Division Badge, and Good Conduct Medal. He was featured in several books including Spear Head and Louch. Locally, he was featured on the cover of the “Armstrong Reporter,” 1945 corporate report and the Memorial Day issue of the Intelligencer Journal. He valiantly served as a tank commander, gunner, and radio operator.
An electrician by trade, Les was a member of IBEW. Les enjoyed the outdoors and loved playing golf, riding motorcycles, hunting, and shooting archery. He was also the first person to come and help anyone in need. He was a member of the Worship Center but poor health and age in later years kept him home.
Les is survived by two children: Leslie (Larry) Baruffi and Scott (Donna) Underwood; four grandchildren: Angelina (Greg) Hill, Seth (Kary) Baruffi, Madison Underwood and TJ Underwood, ten great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Les will be held at 12PM, on Monday, July 2, 2018, at the Charles F. Snyder, Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543. A viewing will held one hour prior to the service. Les will be laid to rest at Conestoga Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Les’s memory may be made to Hospice & Community Care, PO Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604.
