Leona LaRue Bair

December 15, 2013

Leona LaRue Bair of Lancaster and formerly of Altoona went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, December 15, 2013. Born in Altoona, she was the daughter of the late Randall and Martha (LaRue) Bair.

She attended the East End Methodist Church where she came to know the Lord at age 13. After college, she entered nurse’s training in Philadelphia, after which she attended graduate school for more Bible training at Columbia International University in South Carolina.

Leona joined the Overseas Missionary Fellowship, formerly the China Inland Mission, spending 38 years in Thailand. She lived mostly in hill villages with the Hmong people whom she loved. Upon retiring in 1998, she came home and eventually was happy to settle in Lancaster where there is a large group of Hmong people and a Hmong church.

Leona is survived by several nieces and nephews and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Loretta Kaufman and Dorothy Hoover, and a brother, Clarence Bair.

Funeral services will be held at 9 AM Saturday, December 21, 2013 at Charles F. Snyder, Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA with Pastor Dao Yang and Rev. Condolences to the Family

I have enjoyed being with Leona at my parents home Robert & Lottie Wray where she spent many hours on leave.  She and my mother would sew for hours.  I remember helping my mother send 2 lb. boxes to Leona which always had to have M & M, dried fruit, empty medicine bottles and many more things that the ladies of East End Church would gather for her. She enjoyed going to Glendale camping in the summer with my parents.
Leona was always happy and willing to help anyway she could.  It seemed I always seemed to move when she was home on leave and she was always right their helping in fact she always laughed about it.
She will always be in my heart and in God’s hand.  She was a blessing to know and will be missed by all that loved her!
