He always greeted everyone with a smile and made sure that you were smiling, too. Thinking of you all as you learn to navigate life without him. I am sorry for your loss. Caramie Oberholtzer

This is sad news to hear, I want send my condolences to the Karen, and the family.
I have known Jamie since the late 70’s, I was just a junior firefighter with EDEN, and I do believe we had the largest group of juniors the EDEN had ever seen.
So, this leads me to many many memories of Jamie, and I do believe we the juniors did cause him to loose most of his hair,, we tested him any chance we got, but he alway taught us the “Right Thing To Do”.
Jamie was a mover and shaker for the fire service in Lancaster County, for one was the Snorkel. He had the vision for the future by getting this unit for the EDEN. He had a connection at Pikesville, and the next thing we got a Snorkel. We all at EDEN were very proud of that unit, and trained very hard to understand this thing called “Truck Company”. The best part was the Lancaster County Communications did not even know what radio call sign to give us, since it was a new concept in Lancaster County. The next item Jamie brought to Lancaster County was the “Box Card System”. This to was a new concept to Lancaster County. This assisted the incident commander by not relying on memory on who to call for help, all you needed to was tell the dispatcher “Give The Next Due Engine”, and the dispatcher would look at the box card, and dispatch who ever was next due. The next thing Jamie brought to Lancaster County was the “Incident Command System”, and he learnt this by attending a class taught by “Alen Brunacini” who was the “God Father” of incident command for the fire service. Jamie and Dr. Widmer rented out a room at the Eden Resort, and brought in Alan to instruct the “Incident Command System” to the rest of the fire chiefs in Lancaster County, and from the point forward the command system was born in Lancaster County. The next project for Jamie was forming a Haz-Mat Team for Manheim Twp., and again along with Dr. Widmer these two were able to get the other township fire companies to come on board, and along with the East Petersburg Fire Co. So, Haz-Mat 2 was born, and not knowing how this team would grow and expand.
Jamie was able to attract talent to the EDEN, and you could tell, we always were looking for ways to improve the EDEN to better serve our community, and mutual aid companies. When there was a very devastating incident which was a confined space rescue, one of the members “Tom Kelly” came to the station to rig up a special mask to enter this tank, and he presented the idea to Jamie, and Jamie said if this will work, lets do it.
I could go on, and on, but everyone in the fire service in Lancaster County need to see what this gentleman gave to help the fire service grow, and progress.
Jamie was 10 years ahead of his time, and he would make connections everywhere he went.
Enclosing,
I will miss our talks sometimes 3 hours long, or longer. I know the past few weeks I was very busy with work stuff, and I could not take his calls, but I am blessed to have known Jamie and what he taught me.
Again, my condolences to Karen, and the family. P.S. “Chief 2-4 to County, Go Ahead Chief. Responding Into The Plant For A Fire”.
