Kenneth Preston Pruitt, 90

February 4, 1934 - April 28, 2024

Kenneth Preston Pruitt, age 90, was welcomed with open arms into his heavenly home on April 28, 2024. He has finally met his Maker, the One whom he lived his life for. He’s now experiencing a love like no other.

He was born February 4, 1934, in Marion, Virginia to the late John Preston Pruitt and Florence “Flossie” Pruitt Miller.

He played quarterback and basketball at Marion High School and then joined the Navy when he was 17. He served on the USS Donner stationed in Norfolk, VA during the Korean War. The Donner cruised in the Caribbean and off the waters of Greenland. After he started his family in Marion, Virginia, he moved to Lancaster, PA. He worked as a tool and diemaker, machinist and supervisor for Charles Duty & Son until 1983 when they closed. He bought a heat-treat machine and opened his own business at his home on East Main Street in Leola. He also got his real estate license and worked for Sam Hostetter at Leola Realty until he bought the real estate office in 1988. He later re-named it Red Rose Realty. He had a successful career as a real estate agent and land developer in Leola, developing Olde Leacock Village, Country Circle, Myer Terrace, and Stauffer Court.

Ken was a kind soul who brought happiness to everyone he met. He made it a point to learn everyone’s name that he had the pleasure to meet. He was an extremely grateful, gracious, and polite in nature. His journey of faith led him to worship at Monterey Chapel and Calvary Independent. Later in life, he enjoyed golfing and vacationing in Saint Thomas. He made special memories with the Robbins and Long families. He was a member of a ballroom dance club and the Lancaster Elks Club. He enjoyed sending greeting cards which he called “seeds of faith” to those who were special to him for every occasion he could think of. He enjoyed his home on Battens Circle living independently, feeding his outside birds, decorating for holidays, and enjoying his neighbors of all ages. He was a well-dressed man and loved his hats. He led a purpose-filled and meaningful life right up to his 90th birthday. Ken adored his family and prayed for them individually and others every day.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, John Henry Miller, Sr., his sister, Marlene P. Murray; his brothers, Lawrence W. Pruitt and John Henry “Rusty” Miller, Jr.

Kenneth is survived by his two sons, James Pruitt (Stephanie) and Travis Pruitt; his daughter, Shari Jones (Steve), their mother, Shirley Osborne Pruitt; his niece Tammy Murray Harrison; his granddaughters, Sasha Pruitt (Micah) and Kayla McCrary (Dakota); his grandsons, Zachary, Julian (Jillian), Gabriel (Josephina) and Marcellus Pruitt; his great granddaughter, Gabriella Pruitt; his great grandsons, Ares and Maximus Pruitt; and his caring friends, Brett and Jen Eby and Steve Sattazahn.

Ken often made donations to Pennsylvania Wounded Warriors, Inc, 1117 Country Club Road, Camp Hill, PA 17011

As a young guy starting out in the title business in 1982, despite my lack of knowledge, Ken took a liking to me and trusted me with his title work even when I didn’t have all the requisite skills.  He had faith in me.  In recent years when Ken was less active, he would still call me for title advice.  Ken never had anything bad to say about anyone.  He loved sharing his faith and his many blessings.  I will always be grateful to Ken for giving a young guy a chance.  It was my pleasure to have known him!  I know what Ken’s new address is and I pray that his family can be at peace with that same knowledge.
