Karl Lee Usner, 86
April 06, 2023
Karl L. Usner, 86, of Lititz, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, April 6, 2023. Born in Ephrata, he was the son of the late Earl and Susanna Usner. He has been reunited with his dear wife, Nancy Usner, who passed only 79 days prior.
Karl, also affectionately known as Pappy, will be remembered for his strong work ethic, and his kindness and acceptance of others. He graduated from Ephrata high school and was self-employed as a carpenter. He was devoted to God and his family, loved his grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them all. He especially enjoyed riding ATV, hunting and fishing in Potter Co., and spending time at his eldest son’s farm. Karl was proud of his family and cherished the times they all spent together.
Karl is survived by his 4 children: Dennis Usner, Douglas Usner, Diane McCurdy (Joseph), and Dora Miller (James); granddaughter Jessica Wright (Edward), great-grandchildren Jyra and Keon Bissell, and his brother Harold Usner (Arlene). He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Nancy, brother Ray, and sister Lois McMullen.
Services for Karl will be held at 11 AM on Monday, April 17, 2023 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 200 W. Orange St, Lititz, with a viewing to begin at 10 AM. Interment will follow in Machpelah Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Karl’s name can be made to Landis Homes Caring Fund, 1001 E Oregon Rd, Lititz, PA 17543 or St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Condolences to the Family

Our prayers go out for the family at this time! We now live in what was Karl and Nancy’s Potter County cabin. We will miss their visits. We think of them often and enjoy our retirement in the property that was their small piece of God’s Country here on earth and look forward to seeing them again in God’s Heaven someday.

I had the privilege of offering communion to Nancy and Karl for several years. My visits were never confined to just sharing bread and wine, they always included great conversation and exchanging stories about family and friends. I was always greeted with a huge, heart melting smile from Nancy. I learned some history of Lititz, history of the Erb family and history of the Usner family. But most of all, I learned that there were 3 things that were very, very important to Karl and Nancy. Firstly, their faith in God. It kept them grounded and directed their life decisions. Secondly, they deeply loved their children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews and all who are included in their family circle. And lastly, they wanted to be good people; loving, generous, and kindhearted. They fulfilled those wishes and goals with ‘flying colors’. I feel so blessed to have had the opportunity to get to know the Usner’s. I will miss Karl and Nancy, but I am comforted knowing they are eternally together in God’s beautiful gardens. I’m so sorry to see that Karl has passed away. I remember him so fondly from my years working at St. Paul. He was very kind, and I always enjoyed my conversations with him as he helped so much around the church. I hope his being reunited with Nancy, eases the pain of his loss for his family.
