Judith Frantz Sloden, 81
April 23, 2025
Judith Frantz Sloden, 81, of Lancaster passed away Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Evelyn (Herr) Frantz. She was the loving wife of Charles Sloden with whom she shared over 51 years of marriage. After their first date, she told her mother she would marry him, and he certainly was the love of her life.
She was a registered nurse for 48 years, graduating from the York Hospital School of Nursing in 1964. She worked at the former St. Joseph’s Hospital as an emergency department nurse for 17 years. She met her best friend and husband at St. Joe’s and maintained nursing school and co-worker friendships until her death. She then worked at the former Lancaster Surgery Center for 25 years, staying so long because the people were true friends and a support system for each other. She frequently gave anonymously to those who needed extra help, but the way she most often expressed love and caring was by cooking for others.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughters: Jennifer L. Sloden of Henryville, PA, and Melissa S. McMurtrie wife of William of Lancaster. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Harry, Charlie, Grace, Evelyn, and her sister, Jeanne Reichert of Grosse Pointe Farms, MI. She was preceded in death by her sister, Betty Frantz.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11AM on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at Charles F. Snyder III Funeral Home & Crematory, 2421 Willow Street Pike, Willow Street, PA. Interment will be private in Conestoga Memorial Park. Family and friends will be received from 10-11AM at the funeral home on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Judith’s memory may be made to the Humane League of Lancaster County, 2195 Lincoln Hwy E, Lancaster, PA 17602.

Judy was my neighbor and my first friend when we moved to the Crossings. Right after our movers left on that first day Judy appeared at my door to introduce herself and welcome my husband and I with a hot meal. Over the next 3 years we were frequently the recipients of her meals always delivered with a smile. She really loved to cook for others.
Her sweetness and kindness will be missed but remembered.

How sad to read that dear Jody Sloden is gone from our lives, but never from our memories. As one of those Healthsouth coworkers, I recall many special times from those years When I retired from there in 1998, Judy gave me a small white “throw”, which rests welcoming on the back corner of my sofa–I think of her each time I see it. She was a welcoming presence. Much love to the whole family.

I was blessed to have worked with Judy for those many, many years at HealthSouth. As noted we were a family, who truly cared for each other. Her giving spirit, joyful smile, sense of humor, tender patient care, and sweet personality made each work day a joy. It was always great seeing her at our get togethers after HealthSouth closed. I will lift all of you in my prayers. May your sweet memories bring comfort in the difficult days. My Sympathy,Mona Engle

Charlie and Girls.
So sorry to hear about Judy.My thoughts are with your wonderful family. Our families were somewhat intertwined. My Dad admired Charlie and Judy professionally and personally. He so loved following the track meets at McCaskey. Time passes too quickly. I have such fond memories of SJH and the family that was created there.

my heart goes out to the entire Sloden family. I was so sorry to hear of her passing. I worked with Judy at Health South. We all enjoyed her sense of humor. We shared such good times. She was always very generous and kind. When my father was very ill she brought me pansies-and to this day that flower reminds me warmly of my Dad and Judy. My prayers go out to all of you!

Charlie & Melissa, It was so hard to read about Judy this morning. Our St. Joe’s lives crossed very briefly, but we 3 have had more years of personal and professional relationships, some hard experiences, as well as laughter. I hope your loving memories are many and that family and friends are holding you in their hearts. Linda Gort
