Joseph R. Tomcavage, 77
Joseph R. Tomcavage, 77, of Lancaster, PA, passed away on Friday, August 10, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family. Born in Shamokin, PA, he was the son of the late Joseph and Jean (Binkoski) Tomcavage. Joe was the husband of Carol J. (Beringer) Tomcavage with whom he celebrated 43 years of marriage.
Joe graduated from Lancaster Catholic High School. He retired as an engineer after 39 years of service from Burle Industries when RCA was sold. He was in the US Navy Reserves for 8 years. Joe was a member of the Eden Swim Club. He was an avid golfer, investor and enjoyed going for walks.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Carol, are his children: Mark R. Tomcavage, husband of Susan of Havertown, PA; J. Steven Tomcavage, husband of Jennifer Zanck of Malvern, PA; and Amy B. Kattula, wife of Steven of Manassas, VA; and 2 aunts: Anna Binkoski of Shamokin, PA and Clara Kern of Reading, PA. Joe was the proud grandfather of 5 grandchildren.
The family especially wishes to thank his doctors and nurses from Lancaster General Oncology Department and the caring staff of Hospice of Lancaster County for the compassion and concern they gave him and us during his illness.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM on Monday, August 13, 2012 at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 601 East Delp Road, Lancaster, PA 17601 with Rev. Michael Letteer as Celebrant. Family and friends will be received from 10-11 AM at church. Interment is private for the family at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Joe’s name to Lancaster Catholic High School, 650 Juliette Avenue, Lancaster, PA 17601 or Hospice of Lancaster County, PO Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604. TO Joe’s Family: I had the privilige of working with Joe at RCA prior to 1975. I saw Joe from time to time in the Electronic’s World and also kept in contact recently primarily thru my Lancaster breakfast friends each monday since 1997.
