Joseph A. Vehovic, 81
August 13, 2024
Joseph A. Vehovic, 81, of Lancaster, passed away Aug. 13, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Alverda, PA he was the son of the late Charles F. Sr. and Anastasia Vehovic. He was the devoted husband of Elaine Vehovic, with whom he shared 19 years of marriage until her passing in 1991.
At the age of 21, Joe joined the United States Army where he honorably and faithfully served his country until 1968. He was also a dedicated employee of Yellow Freight for over 25 years until his retirement in 2003.
Many will remember Joe for his kindness and generosity. Though he never spoke of it or expected anything in return, he was there to lend a helping hand to so many. Always ready for some fun, he enjoyed golfing, dancing, singing and meticulously maintaining his yard. He also remained an avid Pittsburgh Steelers, Penguins and Pirates fan, even after relocating to Lancaster. He had a great sense of humor and especially enjoyed spending time with all the children in the family. He was also a member of American Legion Post 435 in Glen Campbell.
Above all else, Joe loved his family, especially his grandson Benjamin who affectionately called him “Gamp”, his daughter Valarie Parmer (Joel) of Huntingtown, MD, his siblings, Charles Vehovic Jr. (Catherine) of Allentown, PA and Patricia Kane (Jerry) of St. Leonard, MD as well as his extended family.
Guests are invited to attend a viewing for Joe on Aug. 21, 2024, at the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543, from 4 PM – 6 PM. To honor his military service, honors will be rendered at the funeral home at 4 PM. He will be laid to rest at 12 PM on Aug. 24, 2024, at the St. Casimir Cemetery, Esterville Rd., Lower Yoder Twp., Johnstown, PA.
Memorial contributions may be made to American Legion of Glen Campbell, 83 Glenwood Ave. Glen Campbell, PA 15742 or the Glen Campbell Volunteer Fire Company, 441 Glenwood Ave. Glen Campbell, PA 15742.

Grew up with Joe and Chuck. We were close friends, played sports together and spent many hours together in Strongstown.
Joe was a very level steady guy, great dry sense of humor. Always could count on Joe.

Thank you for sharing Joe with his Lancaster family. For 30 years he joined us at family gatherings… pool parties, sporting events, birthday celebrations, vacations, and everyday happenings. He was like a grandfather to Sydney, Sammie, Ben and Braedy…holding each of them on the days they were born. Joe was the kindest, most generous, and fun-loving man. He will live on in our hearts. We will always love you Joe.

Joe, my forever best friend. You will be sadly missed beyond words Joseph. I’m just so glad we had the opportunities for the many happy and fun times and memories we shared together creating them. There are no words my friend how much they meant and how much continuing to make them will be missed.
Patty, thank you for the beautiful, long talk we shared today regarding Joe. Chuck and Patty, I know you will miss him very much. But I also know that his spirit and presence will always be close to you both forever. God bless your beautiful Vehovic family in this loss of Joe.
