John W. Thompson

February 20, 2017

On Monday, February 20, 2017, John W. Thompson of Lancaster and Boynton Beach, Florida passed away unexpectedly at Lancaster General Hospital.

Born in Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania he was the youngest son of the late Harry and Amelia (Phillips) Thompson. Born into a large farming family of seven sisters and two brothers he continued in that profession until his retirement.

He is survived by his son John W. “Jack” Thompson, II husband to Shari Thompson of Lancaster with whom he resided. He was also survived by two daughters Dawn Thompson of Peach Bottom, PA and Tara Yeager of Willow Street, PA. He remained close friends with his former wife Kay Thompson of Willow Street, PA. John also leaves behind two grandsons Tyler and Chase Yeager; one step-grandson Andrew Witman; two granddaughters Amber K. and Olivia Thompson and two great-grandsons Levi and Quinn. He was a proud uncle to 63 nieces and nephews.

All who knew John knew that his greatest accomplishment was his family. He was so proud to be a father, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle. John served two tours in the US Army stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Riverside Camping Association in Lancaster. He will be fondly remembered by all for his gift of gab and storytelling. He never met a stranger that he didn’t talk to and make them feel that they had been friends for years.

Condolences to the Family

You will be missed very much by your Lancaster neighbors, The Jaquith Family! You were always willing to share a story or two, beam a smile, lend a helping hand and suggest a solution to a lawn or home issue. We will cherish the summer afternoon chats and we’ll forever smile as we remember our riotous and often comical rants about politics! You were always so kind to our children, who never called you by any other name than, ‘Jack’s Dad’! They too, will miss your visits and genuine interest in their activities.
Cheers until we all meet again,
The Jaquith Family
