John W Riley, 93

John W Riley, passed away on Sunday, April 15, 2018 at the age of 93. He was the husband of the late Lois D. (Ashely) Riley, with whom he celebrated over 27 years of marriage. He was born in 1924 to the late Annie (Roland) and W. Claude Riley.
John spent most of his life in agriculture, as a mushroom farmer. He was a hard worker and enjoyed providing for his family. In his free time, he enjoyed visiting family, eating at his favorite diner and working on his vehicles. John was one of the founding members of Calvary Baptist Church in Rising Sun, MD. He drove the Sunday School Bus every week. He will be remembered as someone who loved to laugh. John served in the Army as an PFC during WWII. John was deployed to Germany and France. He was wounded in duty and was a recipient of the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and Medal of Good Conduct.
John is survived by 3 children; Steve Riley and John W Riley, Jr (Colleen) of Nottingham, PA and Kevin Riley of Newark, DE; a sister, Mary Roten of Moncks Corner, SC; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Charlene Sexton, 4 brothers and a sister.
Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project, www.pawoundedwarriors.org.
