John W. Riley, 92

John W. Riley, 92, of Wernersville, passed away after a brief illness at the Reading Hospital on Friday, May 24, 2019. Born in Lynn, MA, John was the son of the late Joseph F. and Katherine (Ellard) Riley.

John proudly served in the US Navy, and had a distinguished military career over more than 20 years. Upon his honorable discharge, he transferred to Fleet Reserve and worked as a civilian for naval intelligence. He had a wonderful sense of humor and always made everyone around him laugh.

John is survived by his daughter, Susan A. Felizzi and her husband Mark, and his son, Michael R. Riley, all of Wernersville. Also surviving is a brother, Fred Riley, of FL; his twin sister, June Tarkington, of MA; and a granddaughter, Ariana Becher.

A Memorial Service for John will be held at 4:00 PM on Monday, June 17, 2019, at the Ephrata Community Church, 70 Clay School Road, Ephrata, PA, 17522, where the family will receive guests beginning at 3:00 PM. Interment will take place at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, June 18, 2019, at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet outside the main office area by 12:45 PM. I worked with and for John many years at NISC before transferring to DIA. He was always a wonderful colleague and taught me many things as an analyst. I was at his retirement ceremony at NISC before they moved into the ONI building and he remain as jovial as ever. He also taught many of my other friends and colleagues before some of them switched to DIA. I’m only sad that I didn’t know more about him in the Navy, as he seemed like a typical Boatson’s Mate and I understand he was on landing craft going into the beaches of Normandy during WW II. I shall never forget him and his lessons for us all…
