John Rudolph Laidig, 72

November 02, 2018

John Rudolph Laidig, 72, passed away at home on Friday, November 2, 2018. Although John had been undergoing treatment for cancer since January 2015, his death was very unexpected.
John was born on August 7, 1946 in Chambersburg, PA, son of the late Rudolph O. and Martha Hoover Laidig.
John graduated from Chambersburg Area Senior High School in 1964, from the Industrial Management Institute in Reading, PA in 1966, and from Drake University in Ft. Lauderdale, FL in 1968.
He served in the US Air Force from 1969 to 1973, serving in Vietnam from August 1969 until August 1970.
John was employed as an Industrial Engineer at the former Raymark Co. in Manheim for 25 years and at Hoffman Industries in Sinking Springs for 10 years before his retirement in 2009. He was a member of the Institute of Industrial Engineers. He enjoyed his post-retirement job at the Manheim Auto Auction.
He was a charter member of Son Light Bible Church, Lancaster, from its inception in 2009. He was a former member of the Long Memorial United Methodist Church, Neffsville, PA for 35 years.
John’s faith was the cornerstone of his life, and despite our deep loss and grief, we know he is safely and joyfully in the presence of Almighty God forever. John’s courage and faith through his journey with cancer was humbling, and an inspiration to everyone who knew and loved him, especially to his beloved wife, who will treasure his gentleness, goodness, unselfishness and deep love forever.
He and Kimberly traveled to Maine every fall for the past 28 years, which they consider their second home. They are associate members of the Church on the cape in Cape Porpoise, ME.
In addition to his wife, Kimberly, John is survived by his brother, Kent A. Laidig, Elverson, PA; two nephews, one niece and several cousins
A Memorial Service will be held at Son Light Bible Church, 2503 Oregon Pike, Lancaster PA 17601 on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 1PM with Pastor Michael Nolt officiating. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in John’s memory to Son Light Bible Church at the above address or to the Healing Journey, c/o Lancaster Cancer Center, 1858 Charter Lane, Suite 202, Lancaster, PA 17605-0396.

I considered John an auto auction friend.  His personality and demeaner reflected his Christian faith and love.  He will be greatly missed by those who knew him.  I pray God’s peace, comfort and strength upon your family in this difficult time.

“10,000 Reasons” we are grateful and we know that John is now fully restored with no pain, no sorrow, no fear, in the presence of his Lord & King, rejoicing with family and friends who have gone before. Until we meet again, dear friend.  And to sweet Kim, all our love and prayers as you begin to lean on Him just a little more frequently, reach out to friends just a little more boldly, and cherish your abundant memories often as possible!
Bless the Lord O my soulO my soulWorship His Holy nameSing like never beforeO my soulI’ll worship Your Holy name
The sun comes upIt’s a new day dawningIt’s time to sing Your song againWhatever may passAnd whatever lies before meLet me be singingWhen the evening comes
You’re rich in loveAnd You’re slow to angerYour name is greatAnd Your heart is kindFor all Your goodnessI will keep on singing
Ten thousand reasonsFor my heart to find
And on that dayWhen my strength is failingThe end draws nearAnd my time has comeStill my soul willSing Your praise unending

Dearest Kim,
I cannot begin to say what my heart feels for you right now. The deep and joyful love you and John have had for each other, and all the wonderful memories you have shared, have been such an inspiration for me–as I know it has for so many. I so wish I could take away some of your pain right now. I know it’s yours to carry, yet I hope that John’s abiding love, the love of our Father in heaven, and the love of all those of us who care so deeply for you, will hold you and give you some peace and comfort as you grieve such an unbearable loss. I love you!
