John “Phoenix” Rann, 55

February 03, 2024

Early morning Saturday February 3, 2024, John “Phoenix” Rann took his last breath with his wife, Shereen, by his side. This man of courage and unimaginable strength fought his cancer battle for over 6 years. He fought with his Army strength, his Love for his Family and Faith in Our Lord. He fought so hard to be here for their anniversary on February 2nd. This is the powerful love and commitment he had for all their marriage.

Phoenix was born on December 10th 1968 in Perry, MI to the Late John C. and Wanda M. Rann. He graduated from Perry High School in 1987. He was a 1991 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point serving with the motto of “Duty Shall Be Done”. He then served as an Army Armor Officer in the 24th Infantry Division where he achieved the rank of Captain. His contributions were marked by exceptional leadership and dedication to duty.

In 2004, Phoenix received his MBA from Marquette University in Milwaukee WI. He spent the majority of his career in Manufacturing Operations at General Motors, Case New Holland and High Concrete. He worked the last 10 years at High Concrete in Denver PA as Vice President of Operations.

Phoenix is survived by the love of his life, Shereen (Baig) Rann, his three daughters Bailey Rann (Keeler Steele), Angeline Rann and Maxine Rann. He is also survived by his not-so-brother- in law Michael Baig and his sisters Kelly Carson and Diane Rann (John Stuart) He is survived by brother-in Law Nicholas Zaim (Jamie) and Naureen (Andy Lyon). He has a special love for many nieces and nephews and so many friends who were dear to his heart. Phoenix also considered himself a loving Daddy to many fur babies. He is preceded in death by his brother Kit Carson III and his sister Julie Rann.

Phoenix will be remembered as a generous loving and involved Husband and Father. He coached his daughters in nearly all their sports and greatly supported all their activities. He shared his passion of sports with love for all Detroit teams and especially Army Football with his family and friends. He shared his love of music, food, reading, history and traveling throughout the world with his family. He especially loved any time near water with fondness for Lake Charlevoix, Lake Michigan, the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean.

Phoenix led his Family through his devout Faith in Our Lord Jesus Christ through the Catholic Church and was an active and dedicated parishioner of Our Mother of Perpetual Help Church in Ephrata PA.

Family and Friends are invited to gather from 5-7PM on Thursday, February 8, 2024 at Spacht-Snyder Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 127 S. Broad Lititz, PA 17543. Condolences to the Family

Shereen, Bailey, Maxine, and Angeline,
I just heard of Phoenix’s passing and I am so sorry.  I met Phoenix through my husband, Aron, when I first moved to Wisconsin in 1999.  Phoenix and Aron both worked at CNH.    I had bonded with Phoenix because we are both from Michigan and well, Phoenix is just such an awesome person with a great personality.  I always enjoyed being around him and for a girl who was very homesick, it felt so nice to have someone from MI so close.  Phoenix came to Aron and I’s wedding in August, 2001 and we found that we had something in common.  Phoenix recognized my Priest.  My Priest was from Perry, MI which is also where my Dad’s family is from.  I never knew Phoenix was from Perry!  It ends up, Phoenix’s grandmother, Thelma Phoenix, went to school with my Grandfather.  They also served in Student Council together.  Thelma and my Grandmother were also friends.  It was such a small world, and ever since that connection was made, I have always felt that Phoenix was like a long lost cousin to me.  It breaks my heart to hear of his suffering, but it does give me comfort knowing he died with his love of his life with him. I remember how happy he was when he found you and I remember your wedding and when you spoke.  I believe you said something about finding your Prince, or something to the effect.  I remember thinking how happy I was that he found you.
Thank you for taking care of our dear friend.  He will hold a special place in my heart forever.   Amy Oechsner

Shereen and family,

We are so sorry to hear about the death of your husband, Phoenix, and deeply mourn his passing with you.

I was fortunate to be Phoenix’s initial point of contact in our American Civil War Gaming Club in the fall of 2020 and served as his instructor initially to get him familiarized with our club protocols and gaming procedures. He had a talent for re-enacting the battles of that era and demonstrated an excellent grasp of military history. I will let our other club members know about his passing — he will be missed.

I was glad that Phoenix and I shared other bonds beyond wargaming.  I also graduated from West Point in 1983 — eight years ahead of him — and was initially branched Armor after graduation, as he was. We also cheered on the same Army football team together, in good seasons and in bad 🙂

I counted Phoenix as a friend our club and very grateful for our common faith in Christ.
May he rest in peace now and may the God of all comfort give you His grace and peace.

On behalf of all his friends in the American Civil War Gaming Club,

Scott Eichelberger
Lieutenant Colonel, U.S. Army (Ret.)
