September 28, 2025
John Henry Grimm III, 66, of Lancaster, PA, passed away on Sunday, September 28, 2025, at Lancaster General Hospital.
Born on February 13, 1959, in Lancaster, he was the son of the late John H. Grimm Jr. and Mary Jo Grimm, and his late natural mother, Judith Herr. John was a proud 1977 graduate of J.P. McCaskey High School and went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing from West Chester University.
Throughout his career, John worked in various management and retail roles. He served as a regional manager for Wendy’s Restaurants and also held positions at Macy’s, Boscov’s, Halloween Adventures, Smart Toys, and Marshall’s.
John loved Broadway musicals, and enjoyed attending shows in New York City, Philadelphia, and at the Fulton Theatre in Lancaster. He was an active participant in music throughout his life, playing in the J.P. McCaskey Band program, the West Chester University Golden Rams Marching Band, Buccaneers Senior Drum, Crossman Drum, Bugle Corps and the Reading. He later shared his passion by writing marching drills and teaching both indoor and outdoor color guards for high schools across the Lancaster and Philadelphia areas.
He was lifelong member of First Reformed United Church of Christ in Lancaster. John found joy in many things—especially Halloween, all things Disney, and cheering for his beloved Philadelphia sports teams. Go Birds!
John is survived by his sister, Sharon Grimm Posey, and his brother, Michael J. Grimm and wife Carrie. He is also survived by his loving cousins: Heather Torres—who cared for him during his final year—Kimberly Kleckner, Jeffrey Oatman (Suzy), and Scott Oatman (Shelley). Additionally, he is survived by his aunt and uncle, Terry and Sandra Styer, and Uncle Ed Oatman. He also shared a lifelong friendship with George Thomson of Telford, PA.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2025, at 12:00 PM at First Reformed United Church of Christ, 40 E Orange St, Lancaster, PA 17602, in Harbaugh Hall. John will be laid to rest in the church’s memorial gardens following the service.
