John H. “Jack” Zimmerman, Sr., 91

December 27, 2017

John H. “Jack” Zimmerman, Sr., 91, of Millersville, formerly of Churchville, PA, passed away on Wednesday, December 27, 2017, at Hospice & Community Care of Mount Joy. Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late John and Margaret (Tuckmantel) Zimmerman. He was the beloved husband of Bertha (Remshard) Zimmerman, with whom he shared 69 years of marriage.

After graduating from St. Joseph’s Prep School in Philadelphia, Jack joined the U.S. Army and honorably served his country as a Staff Sergeant, Company F, 187th Parachute Glider Airborne Infantry Regiment during WWII. Early on, he worked for the Philadelphia Bulletin, and later as a Circulation Manager for the Philadelphia Inquirer, from where he retired after 16 years of service. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 50 years. Jack enjoyed soccer and coached at The United German Hungarian Club, LaSalle University (assistant), and Wildwood Catholic High School. Jack loved to travel with Bert, was an avid reader, and a loyal Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles fan. He will be remembered for his loving heart, great sense of humor, and for being the best son, brother, husband and father imaginable.

In addition to his beloved wife, Jack is survived by his daughter Jane (Robert) Slabinski, Millersville, and his sons John (Lisa) Zimmerman DC, Fort Collins, CO; Jeffrey (Christina) Zimmerman, Ventura, CA; and Eric (Caroljo) Zimmerman of Doylestown, PA. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren and one great-grandson, Jack. He was preceded in death by his sister Shirley Connelly.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jack’s name may be made to Hospice & Community Care of Mount Joy, 4075 Old Harrisburg Pike, Mount Joy, PA 17552.
