John G. Samchisen, 88

John G. Samchisen, 88, of Lancaster and formerly of Elmira, NY, passed away Sunday, July 1, 2012 at Fairmount Homes. Born in Elmira, NY he was the son of the late Samuel and Eva (Hilschanska) Samchisen. He was married to Lorraine (Dombroski) Samchisen for more than 65 years.

John retired from NY State Electric and Gas Company after over 40 years of service as a supervisor.  He proudly served as a radio man in the US Navy during WWII. His ship, the USS Mannert L. Abele, was destroyed by Japanese kamikaze rockets in April 1945. John was an avid golfer, and enjoyed bowling and spending time with his family. He was of the Catholic faith.

In addition to his loving wife he is survived by his children, Maryann Bechtel, wife of Peter, of Millersville, Edward Samchisen, husband of Brenda, of Horseheads, NY, Susan Price, wife of David, of Dunn Loring, VA, and 5 grandchildren.  Also surviving are his siblings, Steven Samchisen, Dorothy Samchisen, Julia Siglin, all of Elmira, NY, and Anna Snyder, of Corning, NY. He was preceded in death by one sister, and two brothers.

A Christian Prayer Service will be at 3PM on Friday, July 6, 2012 at the Charles F. Snyder, Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA with Fr. Mark E. Weiss officiating. Interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Fairmount Homes, Sharing Fund, 333 Wheat Ridge Drive, Ephrata, PA 17522. I was saddened to hear of the passing of Uncle John. I’m glad I had a chance to see and chat with him when we celebrated Dad’s (Steve)80th birthday 5 years ago. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
