John A. Houck, 89
John A. Houck, 89, of Lancaster, former resident of Boyertown, passed away at Essa Flory Hospice Center on July 9th after a short illness.
Son of Samuel C. and Mary A. Houck, he is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lois (Updegrove) Houck and five daughters: Donna, wife of Ronald Leister, Barto; Marilyn, wife of Bryen Lorenz, Lafayette Hill; Debra wife of David Schur, Allentown, Suzanne, wife of Joseph Donato, Lancaster; and Kathleen Houck, Lancaster.
In addition, he is survived by sisters, Mary Samsel and Esther Hunsberger, a brother, Samuel Houck, six grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. He is predeceased by a grandson, Jonathan Mock.
Mr. Houck was a graduate of Boyertown High School, class of 1937, a World War II veteran, having served in Army Air Corps, and a retired salesman for Boyertown Body and Equipment Company.
He was a member and former treasurer of Good Shepherd United church of Christ, Boyertown and served as a past president of the Boyertown Lions Club as well as an officer at the Boyertown Community Ambulance. He was a member of the Friendship Hook & Ladder Company and the American Legion, Boyertown.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Hospice of Lancaster County, 685 Good Drive, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125 or Good Shepherd United Church of Christ, Boyertown, PA. A memorial service will be private at the convenience of the family.
