John A. Byrnes, 86

John A. Byrnes, 86, of Lancaster, passed away Monday, July 31, 2017 at Hospice & Community Care, Mount Joy. He was the husband of the late Joyce I. (Jessop) Byrnes, also of Lancaster, to whom he was married for 33 years.
Born in Kearny, New Jersey, he was the son of the late John F. and Mary (Stickles) Byrnes.
John graduated from St. Peter’s College, Jersey City, NJ with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Accounting. He served in the US Army during the early 1960’s, obtaining the rank of Captain. John retired in 1989 after a 33-year career with RCA based in both Harrison, NJ and Lancaster, PA. In his retirement years, he worked as a part-time teller for the Bank of Lancaster County.
John was a member of St. John Neumann Church, Lancaster PA, and a past member of St. Leo the Great Church, Rohrerstown PA, where he served as an usher for many years. He was a lifelong Yankees fan who loved to watch baseball. His other interests included World War II history, gardening and reading, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his children and their families.
John is survived by his two children; Kelley A. Nadeau wife of Donald (Lancaster, PA) and John E. Byrnes husband of Lora (Alexander City, AL); six grandchildren; Nicole C. Adams (Lancaster, PA), Derek A. Nadeau (Portsmouth, NH), Jenna L. Nadeau (Nashua, NH), Season Turner (St. Petersburg, FL), Amanda Hamlin (St. Petersburg, FL) and Ashley Ridenour (Sebring, FL) and seven great-grandchildren. John was preceded in death by four sisters; Helen Paterson, Catherine Toomey, Mildred Crincoli and Marion Burger.
Viewings will be held 6 to 8 PM Friday, August 4th at the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA and 10 to 11 AM Saturday, August 5th at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 601 E. Delp Road, Lancaster, PA. The Funeral Mass, with Rev. Daniel F.X. Powell as Celebrant, will take place 11 AM Saturday at Church. The Holy Rosary will be prayed 7:30 PM on Friday at the funeral home. Interment with Military Honors will be in St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in John’s memory to Water Street Mission, 210 South Prince Street, Lancaster, PA 17603 or Hospice & Community Care, P.O. Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125.

My wife and I offer our deepest sympathy for your loss. John was my direct boss at RCA, Lancaster, when I was the General Accounting Mgr. He was a very understanding and supporting supervisor. Only I could have been so lucky to know and learn from him. May God bless and keep him.
