Joan Morris Barkhimer
Joan Morris Barkhimer of 1921 Oregon Pike died Sunday at her residence.
Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of Edward Grant and Margaret Nichols Grant.
She was a graduate of Scranton Central High School and an honor graduate of Marywood University. She studied piano at the Scranton Conservatory of Music and was an accomplished pianist. She was a member of the Junior Century Club of Scranton and a former member of the Lancaster Country Club and the Hamilton Club.
A homemaker most of her life she worked for several years as a recreational therapist at Conestoga View. Her hobbies included reading, bridge, piano, and she had leading roles in the Kiwanis musicals at the Fulton Opera House. She was a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church.
She is survived by her husband, Harold Barkhimer and six children; John Morris of Reading; James married to Mary Ellen Dougherty Morris of Scranton; Joanne married to Gary Stauffer of Lancaster; Judy DeTora of New Jersey, Nancy married to Raymond Mohler of Pequea; Kathleen married to John Barkhimer of Lancaster; nine grandchildren and four step children. Previously, she was married to John R. Morris.
She was preceded in death by a sibling; Marion Grant Conway.
A memorial service will be held at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 601 E. Delp Rd., Lancaster on Thursday at 11:00am.
