Joan E. Horn, 89
October 10, 2023
Joan E. Horn, 89, of Lancaster, passed away Tuesday, October 10, 2023. Born in Mount Joy, PA, she was the daughter of the late Alvin and Anna (Leibfried) Showalter. She was the wife of the late Donald L. Horn who passed away in 2015.
Joan graduated from Columbia High School in 1952. She worked for Armstrong Cork Company, was a co-owner of Don’s Nite Spot and spent most of her career working at Eye Associates as a surgery scheduler. Joan finished her professional career as a receptionist at Woodcrest Villa where she was a bright smile and a helpful resource to the residents.
Joan served as the Secretary on the first school board at St. Leo the Great School and was a Girl Scout Leader. In her personal life, Joan was a very passionate reader, always with a book in her hands and stacks of books around her. She also enjoyed knitting and crafts. As her grandchildren were growing, Joan was always an eager and warm-hearted babysitter who used her imagination to make lasting memories.
Joan loved spending time with her family: daughter, Sharon, wife of Cecil Sudbrack, and their sons Jonathan and Andrew Sudbrack of New Holland; daughter, Lisa, wife of Stephen Butz, and their daughter Alexandra Butz of Philadelphia; and son Brian Horn, husband of Rita Rauch, and their daughters Emily, Rachel, and Nicole Horn of Broomall.
A Prayer Service will be held at 11 AM Thursday, October 19, 2023, at Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA. Interment will follow in Conestoga Memorial Park, Lancaster, PA. Joan’s family will receive friends from 10-11 AM on Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, and in gratitude for the loving care the nurses, aides and staff provided to Joan, contributions in Joan’s memory may be made to Abbeyville Resident Council Fund, at Abbeyville Skilled Nursing & Rehab Center, 100 Abbeyville Rd, Lancaster, PA 17603.

As a resident of Woodcrest Villa I always enjoyed visiting with Joan when she worked here. To my surprise one night when I was on FB I got a message from Joan and we ending up talking to each other. It was such a pleasant surprise for me. She really was very helpful to all of us and we missed her when she left. My sympathies to all of her family at this time.
