Jeff Broderick, 87
December 23, 2023
Jeff Broderick, classic car enthusiast, husband of 66 years, dad, and popop, passed away on 23 December 2023 after living several years with Parkinson’s disease. He was 87. He and his wife, Betty, lived in Lancaster County for 34 years beginning in 1970, before retiring to Lewes, Delaware.
Jeff and Betty loved restoring historical things to their former glory. One of those things was a stone grist mill in White Horse, built in 1732, which housed their flagship store and business headquarters for many years. This restoration was the direct work of a handful of highly skilled and dedicated Lancaster County craftspeople whose contributions continued to be appreciated through Jeff’s life.
Several classic cars were also restored to original condition, the work of talented local folks, at Jeff’s inspiration. He had deep appreciation for early, quality craftsmanship and served on the board of the Classic Car Club of America for 10 years. He earned certification as a Master Judge, an accomplishment that meant a great deal to him.
Not one to shy away from tedious tasks, Jeff had a gift for making them seem like fun. He was at home in the kitchen, and his grandchildren attribute their love of cooking to their Pop. He was quick to laugh, his laugh was infectious, and he greatly appreciated a well-timed joke. His family will miss the twinkle in his bright blue eyes.
Born to parents M. Adrian and Marian (Johnson) Broderick in 1936, he and Elizabeth Manarel were married in July of 1957 in the middle of their college years.
In addition to his wife, Jeff is survived by daughter, Tracy; grandchildren Adrienne Cornett Cruz (Fredis) and Devin Cornett; great grandchildren Bailey and Esther Cornett Cruz; younger brother, Bob Broderick (Joan), younger sister, Sally Taylor (Jim), and sister in-law, Patti. He was pre-deceased by his older brother Matt.
A memorial gathering will be held in Lewes in the spring. Betty has recently moved back to Lancaster.
