Jeanette C. Gigl, 89

Jeanette C. Gigl, 89, of Lancaster, died Monday, January 31, 2011 at Hospice of Lancaster County.

Born in Lancaster, Jeanette was the daughter of the late Lewis J. and Barbara (Wolpert) Gigl.

After her graduation from Lancaster Catholic High School in June of 1939, Jeanette worked at the school as the principal’s secretary to 10 different principals from 1939 until 1994, then continued to volunteer her services until 2006.

Jeanette loved to sing.  She, along with Anne and Phyllis Cuzzuculi, formed The Savern Sisters Trio, performing Big Band music on radio and with the USO at Fort Indiantown Gap to entertain the troops during World War II.

Jeanette was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Her life revolved around family, friends, and Lancaster Catholic High School.  She enjoyed spending time with her nieces and nephews, helping them in her very special, quiet way.

Jeanette enjoyed her last several years as a resident at Evergreen Estates, and the friends she met there.

Jeanette is survived by her nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews, and numerous godchildren.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, William and John Gigl, and sisters, Helen Spangler, Ruth Schmitz, and Margaret R. Brommer.

Miss Gigl was a delight to have at Lancaster Catholic High.  She always had a smile on her face and was a joy to be around.  May God bless her family and those she has touched while she worked at LCHS and volunteered her time.

What a sad day for the LCHS community and the family of Jeanette. Jeanette WAS Lancaster Catholic High School and will be sorely missed by all who walked our hallways and knew her. I will never forget her smiling face, her many voice messages on my phone and visits to the band room, her happy birthday messages (Marilyn Monroe style), her caring (but stern) way of running the school and let it be known she DID RUN the school. I will also never forget how much she enjoyed our performance of No,No Nanette "An Evening with Jeanette". She was beaming ALL NIGHT LONG. She hated the attention….but deserved every minute of it! Many of us have countless memories of SAINT Jeanette Gigl and will never forget her. May she rest in peace and enjoy singing with the Savern Sisters Choir of Angels. Thanks for ALL you’ve done for me and for LCHS!!!!!

Love,
Tony Brill (and Jodi & Jud)

A wonderful and inspiring lady who will be missed!  Rest in peace!

I will miss my Aunt Jeanette very much.  May she rest in peace – she’s with my great-grandfather, great-grandmother, grandfather, great-uncles and great-aunts now.  She’s singing her songs again!

We will miss the person affectionately known to us as "Aunt Jeanette".
Our prayers are with her niece Barbara and all the family.

Jeanette was such a part of LCHS for so many years. A great lady who lived a long happy life sharing her talents and love with many generations of students. She will be missed by all who knew her. Rest in peace dear lady.

Thank you for sharing Aunt Jeanette with us.    Most of us reside in Arizona, some in California, some in Chicago  and  we are the children, grandchildren and great grandchildren of Mary and Jere J. Brommer.    We were very blessed to have the Godly influence of Aunt Jeanette in our lives and have many many precious memories of Aunt Jeanette giving of herself to encourage our development not just to stay on the "straight and narrow" but also to be the very best we could be with the talents God gifted to us.   Aunt Jeanette, thank you for giving of yourself so freely and making our memories "fun" and also displaying a Godly example of excellence and moderation for us to strive for.   We love you and we will miss you.

An extraordinary person with an extra ordinary way to make everyone feel welcome and important. Her faith was very evident as she smiled and talked of certain things she felt would work out for you. May she rest in peace and experience everything that heaven has to offer such a faithful servant.
