Jean S. Zimmerman, 90

March 08, 2018

Jean S. Zimmerman, 90, a resident of Landis Homes, died peacefully in her sleep on March 8, 2018. She was preceded in death by Leroy E. Zimmerman, her loving husband of 52 years, who passed in 2009. They raised their family in Intercourse and lived there for almost 40 years.
She was born in Lancaster, the daughter of the late Walter F. and Mary Buckwalter Somerfield.
Jean was a 1945 graduate of McCaskey High School and worked at Armstrong World Industries (formerly Armstrong Cork Company) for 12 years. She was a member of Bird-in-Hand United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir for 40 years. An avid singer, she also sang with the Grandview Singers for many years.
She is survived by three children, Carol Pike (Mark) of Whitesboro, TX; Thomas Zimmerman (Lauren) of Oxford, AL; and Linda Zimmerman of New Holland. Jean was blessed with four grandchildren, Matthew Pike, Meghan Fomby (Russell), Lisanne Steverson (Eric), and Joseph Zimmerman. She also has four great-grandchildren.
Jean is also survived by sister, Leah Welk and brother Walter Somerfield, Jr., both of Lancaster. She was preceded in death by three brothers (William, Robert, and Raymond Somerfield) and three sisters (Mary Staffieri, Ann Leakway, and Elizabeth Byrd).
Services will be held Sunday, March 11, 2018, at 2PM at Bird-in-Hand United Methodist Church, 2620 Old Philadelphia Pike, Bird-in-Hand, PA. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 1 to 2PM. Interment will follow at the church’s cemetery.

My deepest sympathy to the family. I have good memories of Jean- singing in the choir & serving at the church. She always had a smile and positive attitude. May God comfort and strengthen you.
