Janet F. Showalter, 90

Janet F. Showalter, age 90, passed away on October 23, 2023, at Brethren Village with family at her side. Born Feb. 3, 1933, in Cecil County, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Dalton R. and Ada E. (Underwood) Harris. She married James B. Showalter on October 18, 1952 and the devoted union lasted for 56 years until his passing in 2009.

Being raised during the Great Depression, Janet developed a strong sense of character which enabled her to overcome many of life’s challenges. Her clarity of thought and opinions could not be misunderstood, and her unfiltered honesty set the tone for conversations. At the end of the day, she was unapologetically authentic in her own right. Janet enjoyed playing golf, reading, sewing and traveling. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed having a good glass of wine or an ice-cold beer. She was a huge lover of cats, especially her well-fed cat Tucker.

Janet is survived by her daughter, Chryst Lynn Ruth, wife of W.Thomas, of Lancaster, grandchildren Ashley and Justin (J.T.) Ruth and great grandchildren Mariah, Gage, and Alana Ruth, and Asa D.C. Banguela.
In addition to her husband, James, Janet is preceded in death by her son, James (Jamie) Dalton Showalter.

A Memorial Service will be held at Hamilton Park UCC, 1210 Maple Ave., Lancaster, PA on Friday, November 3, 2023, at 3:00 PM. Friends will be received from 2:00pm until the time of service.
