Janet C. Noll, 85

Janet C. Noll, 85, of Lititz, entered the Church Triumphant on July 11, 2008 at Heart of Lancaster Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. Born June 20, 1923 in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Barton N. and Mary Sebelist Charlton. Her husband, Paul L. Noll, preceded her in death on October 11, 1979.

Surviving her is a daughter, Phyllis N. Miller, of Lancaster. She is also survived by two nephews, Kenneth C. Brackbill of Lancaster and Eugene A. (Skip) Brackbill of East Hampton, Conn. She was predeceased by her two sisters, Valera Jane Charlton, who died in infancy, and Elaine C. Brackbill, who died on July 15, 2006.

A lifelong resident of Lancaster, she graduated from J.P. McCaskey High School in 1941. After graduation, she went to work and worked for the rest of her life, taking only a short leave to have her daughter, Phyllis. Janet worked full time at Watt & Shand, C.B. Tool Company, Penn Dairies, Farmers Bank and Trust Company, and Toews, Ayres and Huber Construction Company (now T-A-H). Following her retirement from T-A-H, she worked part-time at Farmers First Bank of Lititz and briefly at Neffsville Flower Shoppe. At the time of her death, she was the executive secretary for the Lancaster County Dental Society, a job she thoroughly enjoyed and into which she threw her full enthusiasm.

Music was a major part of her life, a passion and gift she shared all her life. Janet started singing at age five in the Cherub Choir at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lancaster, and proceeded through the Junior Choir, the Chancel Choir and then the Senior Choir. She was also a member of McCaskey’s Glee Clubs, the Hershey Community Chorus, and the Reading Choral Society. After graduation from McCaskey, she attended Westminster Choir College summer school for two summers. With her husband, Paul, Janet sang with the Lanchester Chorus and later, the Coatesville Choraliers. In 1973, Janet and Paul went to Romania for a three week goodwill singing tour with the Coatesville Choraliers.

But, Janet’s first love was church music. After leaving Trinity Lutheran when she married Paul, Janet became a member of Memorial Presbyterian Church Choir. In later years, she sang with other choirs in different churches and denominations and often as a soloist. After “helping out” with the Lancaster Moravian Church Choir at their Christmas Eve services for many years, Janet and Paul transferred their church memberships to Lancaster Moravian Church Choir in Palmyra.

A memorial service will be held at Lancaster Moravian Church, 1460 Eden Road, Lancaster on Saturday, July 19, 2008 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Erwin E. Boettcher officiating. Visitation will be at the church for one hour before the service. There will be no viewing. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family at Mellinger’s Mennonite Cemetery where she will be laid to rest beside her husband. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution in Janet’s memory to either Hospice of Lancaster County, P.O. Box 4125, Lancaster, Pa 17604-4125 or to the Lancaster Moravian Church Fund, 1460 Eden Road, Lancaster, Pa 17601.
