James W. “Jim” Smith, 57, of Lancaster, died unexpectedly at Hershey Medical Center on Wednesday, September 18, 2024. He was the son of the late Charles R. Smith and survived by his mother Pauline Steller Smith and his sister Jennifer L. Smith.

Jim was born and raised in Lancaster. He graduated from Conestoga Valley High School in 1985. He was an usher at Calvary Church for over 20 years. Jim worked at Thompson (formerly RCA) for 14 years. More recently he became an expert salesman for Samsung appliances, with his last job at the E. Lancaster Lowes in the appliance department.

He enjoyed golfing and fishing with his father and friends. In July Jim experienced his final fishing trip in Kodiak Alaska.

Jim’s family will receive quests on Thursday, September 26, 2024, from 2:30 to 3:45 pm, followed by a Celebration of his life at 4 pm at Calvary Church with Pastor George May officiating. Private interment will be in Mellinger Mennonite Cemetery.

Condolences to the Family

September 26, 2024

He was my “Jiminy Cricket”, my work conscience. He was my confidante, my friend. I will miss our phone calls and our belly laughs. My deepest condolences to his mom and his sister, he loved you both more than anything in this world. The world is missing a good one but Heaven gained an angel. Rest well, Jim.

My life was never without Jim. Childhood friends / my little brother from my earliest memories. Weather playing baseball as kids or hearing about his last fishing trip a few weeks ago,  Jim has always been a part of my life. Until we meet again little brother, rest easy, you will be missed.

we crossed paths with Jim . He was always
kind , smart, and respectful . We can never
understand the depths of grief that you and Jenn
are going thru… but please know we care and
share in your sadness of a life taken too soon.

Jim was a great guy. I had the pleasure of working with him for a few years. He was always working on solving problems and making progress for the team. Also, a true gentleman who always put family first. I’ll always remember him fondly.
