James Morgan Stobie, 89

James Morgan Stobie, “Morgan” to all who knew and loved him, age 89, of Dover, passed away peacefully holding his daughter’s hand at UPMC Memorial in York, PA. Morgan was born to the late James Graham and Margaret (Cole) Stobie in Glasgow, Scotland on September 20, 1934.
He was married on May 20, 1967, in Boulder, CO, to his loving wife, the late Helen J. (Paul) Stobie. Together they welcomed their only child on May 20, 1968. He enjoyed playing and watching golf, reading a good book, and traveling all over the world with his wife and daughter. He was so proud of his grandson Ian and had looked forward to seeing him graduate from high school in May.
Morgan worked for several years in public accounting before leaving Scotland in 1958 to work for W.R. Grace Coy in Peru, South America. He relocated to the U.S. in 1964 to NYC, working in finance for ITT Corp.
In 1967 he took a position in finance with Syntex Corp. first in Boulder, CO then shortly after getting married, he transferred to Freeport, on the Grand Bahama Islands. Upon returning to the U.S., he worked for Dentsply International Inc of York, PA as a Financial Controller.
Retiring in 1997 from Reliance Medical Products Inc. in Mason, OH as the Vice President of Finance. He and his wife retired to Bluffton, SC where he enjoyed playing golf and volunteering as a Spanish language translator for 3 years at Hilton Head Hospital. Upon returning to PA to be closer to family he volunteered with Lancaster General Hospital for 10 years, initially in the Emergency Department and then as “The Candy Man”.
He is survived by his daughter, Allison “Allie” F. Savage, wife of Robert, of Dover, PA, and his grandson lan R. Savage, also of Dover. Two nephews Ray and Matthew Paul (Betty Jane) of NJ, three great-nephews and a great-niece.
Services are private and will be held at the convenience of the family.
