James M. Thompson, 87

James M. Thompson, 87, of Willow Street, passed away at St. Anne’s Retirement Community on December 29, 2018. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Wallace Thompson and Barbara (Miller) Thompson and beloved husband of the late Helen Thompson who passed in 2013.
A graduate of Lancaster Catholic High School, James went on to work for Ross Technology as a chief analyst. James is a proud veteran of the United States Airforce and honorably served his country as a staff sergeant from 1952 to 1956. He was a member of VFW Post 1690, Seventh Ward Republican Club, and Eighth Ward Club. A devout Catholic, James was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and was the President of St. Joseph’s Catholic Youth Organization and Coach of St. Joseph’s Midget Football team. He enjoyed playing golf, watching Notre Dame football, going on vacation in Rehoboth Beach, and spending time with his dear family and friends.
Surviving are his children, Tim Thompson (Cheryl) and Vicky Giandalia (Joe), five grandchildren; Kelly Scottie, Joseph, Dylan, and Victoria, and his sister Rosemary Humphreville. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Helen, and brothers Wallace and Richard Thompson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, January 4, 2019 at 11:00am at St. Joseph Catholic Church located at 440 St Joseph St, Lancaster, PA 17603. Guests will be received prior to the service starting at 10:00am. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Hospice and Community Care at 685 Good Dr, Lancaster, PA 17604 or to St. Anne’s Retirement Community at 3952 Columbia Ave, Columbia, PA 17512.
