James (Jim) H. Nehr, 68
December 15, 2023
James (Jim) H. Nehr, 68, of Stevens, passed away unexpectedly at home on Friday, December 15, 2023. He was born on June 10, 1955 in Lancaster, PA and was the son of the late Earl C. and Mary A. Nehr. Jim was the beloved husband of the late Vicki L. (Groff) who passed away in 2017.
Jim is survived by his brother, David C. Nehr (Nancy) of Landisville, and Barbara Luft (Lowell) of Columbia. He is also survived by nieces Cindy (Sam Forest) and Holly (Michael Flechler), as well as a great nephew, Bennett Flechler.
Jim grew up with his family in Millersville and graduated from Penn Manor High School in 1973. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics with an emphasis in Accounting from Millersville University in 1978 and received his Master’s Degree from Philadelphia University. He also completed the necessary requirements to become a Certified Public Accountant.
Jim worked with accounting firms in both Berks and Lancaster counties. He retired from Herbein and Co. in Reading, PA, in 2021 as a Sr. Manager in the firm’s Tax Department. His dedication and expertise contributed to the success of the firm. He had many friends and left a lasting impact on those he worked with.
Music was also a significant part of Jim’s life. He had a real love for music and his skill as a guitarist brought joy to those around him. Professionally, he played with The Wooden Band for many years and met his wife during this time.
Jim and Vicki shared a love for the beach, with favorite destinations including Stone Harbor, NJ, and Destin, FL. These coastal retreats provided cherished moments of relaxation and enjoyment for the couple.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Jim’s life will be held at 11 AM on Friday, January 5, 2024, at Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home and Crematory, 441 N. George Street, Millersville, PA 17551. Family and friends will be received from 10 AM until the time of the service. Attendees are encouraged to wear casual clothing. Interment will be private.

Condolences to the Family

Our condolences to the Nehr family. The Nehrs were our neighbors on Herr Avenue in Millersville. We enjoyed many good times. Barbara babysat for our two daughters, Lynn and Lisa. Jim joined us in games in the two backyards. In fact Lisa remembers going to the Nehrs to enjoy their excellent desserts!! Although we moved away in 1974, we still remember the kindness shown to us while living next door. God Bless. Nancy/Bill Brackbill

Great man and fine musician. Glad I got to touch base with him after 40 years shortly after Vicki’s passing. Enjoyed playing in The Wooden Band with Jim.
