James F. Aten, Sr., 84

James F. Aten, Sr., 84, of Lancaster, passed away peacefully Friday, April 20, 2018 at UMPC Pinnacle in Lancaster. He was born on October 12, 1933. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 36 years, Nancy I. Aten.
Jim was a 1952 graduate of Lancaster Catholic High School. He served in the US Navy and retired from Armstrong World Industries after 40 years of service. Jim was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially watching his grandchildren participate in sports and musical events. He was also an avid trout fisherman, a devoted Notre Dame football fan, and loved going to the Kentucky Derby with his family.
Jim is survived by three children: Cindy M. Deery,wife of Craig B. Deery; James F. Aten, Jr. husband of Annette Kennedy-Aten; and John P. Aten, husband of Joellen M. Aten, all of Lancaster, PA. In addition, he is survived by six grandchildren: James F. Aten III, Colin B. Deery, Adelyn I. Deery, Patrick M. Aten, Joseph H. Aten, and Nicholas J. Aten; and by a sister Patricia Flowers wife of Theodore Flowers of Reading. He was preceded in death by his brother, Henry Aten and his sister, Anna Cosgrove.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, April 27, 2018 at 10AM at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 119 S. Prince St., Lancaster, PA with the Rev Leo Goodman as Celebrant. Friends will be received at the church from 9-10AM. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 15829, Arlington, VA 22215.
