J. Edward Brenneman, 92
J. Edward Brenneman, 92, died Monday, May 6, 2019, at Landis Homes, Lititz, Pennsylvania. He was the husband of Jeanne M. Beeler Brenneman, who died in 2004.
He had a long career in Electrical Engineering, spent a lifetime in community service and enjoyed family camping, swimming, sailing, and travel.
Days after graduation from Altoona High School in 1944, Ed joined the Navy, and served as an electrician mate in the South Pacific aboard the USS Romulus (ARL 22). He earned an Electrical Engineering degree from Penn State University in June 1950 and began his electrical design-engineering career in Long Island, NY, before moving to Lancaster, to accept an engineering position with Pennsylvania Water & Power Company. He then spent 24 years with Schick Electric in Lancaster as Product Manager of Shavers and 15 years at Harrow Servo Controls in West Chester.
Ed was a charter member of the Lancaster Power Squadron, serving over 50 years, and an American Red Cross swimming and boating instructor. He was an amateur radio operator, W3NDI, for over 60 years. Ed was a member of the Willow Street Lions Club for 57 years, served on the Lampeter-Strasburg School Board for 15 years, and the Lancaster Blind Association Board for 12 years. He also was a lifetime member of the Altoona Masonic Lodge No. 490. He was a member of both Trinity Lutheran Church and St. James Episcopal Church, Lancaster.
Born in Frostburg, Maryland, he was the son of the late Frederick Lewis and Lucinda Elizabeth Yantz Brenneman. Ed is survived by companion Jane Mitchell, Selbyville, Delaware; his sister Ruth Brenneman Weaver, Hollidaysburg; three daughters Twila M. Nahama, Leland, NC; Inda M. Mahler (George D. Mahler Jr.), Watkins Glen, NY; Mila J. Good, Lompoc, CA; son-in-law John T. Eshleman (JoAnn Eshleman); four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a niece and nephew. He was preceded in death by a daughter Dian E. Eshleman and sons-in-law Bill Nahama and Michael R. Good.
There will be a Viewing on Monday, May 13, 2019 from 10 until 11:00 AM in the Bachman Funeral Home, 7 South Decatur Street, Strasburg, PA. The funeral is 11:00 AM in the funeral home with Pastor Timothy Mentzer officiating. Interment in Conestoga Memorial Park will be private on Monday afternoon.
