Howard J. Campbell, 71

Howard J. Campbell, 71, of Willow Street, passed away Sunday, August 12, 2018 at Lancaster General Hospital. He was born in Lancaster to the late Howard and Freda Ranzinger Campbell. Howie was the loving husband of Sandra L. Gerlach Campbell for 47 years.

Howie graduated from Stevens Trade School in 1966 as a carpenter. He served as a Builder Light 3rd Class with the Seabees during the Vietnam War, stationed at Red Beach in Da Nang. His death was a consequence of his exposure to Agent Orange. After the war, Howie worked a long career as a carpenter, lastly with Wagman Construction, Inc. in York.

He was a member of Lampeter Church of the Brethren. Howie loved antiques, his 1937 Chevrolet and his family’s1914 Frick steam engine. He cherished hunting on the family farm in Pequea and the annual pig roast. Howie also enjoyed gardening, history, and visiting Rehoboth Beach.

Surviving Howie in addition to his wife Sandy, are their daughter Jennifer L. Campbell of Willow Street; his siblings, Jackie Minnich of Lancaster, Mahlon Campbell, husband of Cindy of Lampeter, Robert Campbell, husband of LuAnn of Willow Street, Jerry Campbell of Lancaster,Barry R. Campbell of Pequea, and his mother-in-law Florence Gerlach of Columbia.

Viewings will take place Tuesday, August 14, 2018 from 6 to 8 PM at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, 414 E. King St., Lancaster, PA 17602 and on Wednesday from 1 to 2 PM at Lampeter Church of the Brethren, 1900 Lampeter Road, Lancaster, PA 17602. The funeral will be held 2 PM Wednesday at the church with Rev. John D. Hostetter officiating. Interment will be in Conestoga Memorial Park with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to PA Wounded Warriors, Inc., 1117 Country Club Road, Camp Hill, PA 17001.

Rest in peace Howard we did not get to see each other much but you were always a great cousin buddy! I have M.S. and i cannot get around much i wish we could have got together more buddy!
