Herbert T. Jacobsen, 88

May 20, 2024

Herbert T. Jacobsen, 88, of Willow Valley, passed away Monday, May 20, 2024. Born in Brooklyn, he was the son of the late John and Maggie (Tobiasen) Jacobsen. Herb was the loving husband of Helen (Jensen) Jacobsen, with whom he would have celebrated 67 years, on May 24.

Herb proudly served in the US Army during peacetime. Following his honorable discharge, Herb worked as a Branch Manager for Burroughs Corporation, now Unysis. He then went on to serve as the Executive Director of Tuscarora Inn & Conference Center, a Christian retreat in Mount Bethel, PA, from 1975-2005 and continued to serve on the Board of Directors until 2021. His faithfulness, dedication, and wisdom were instrumental to the growth of the ministry of Tuscarora.

Herb was one of the founding and current members of Mount Bethel Church. He also served on the board of directors at Eddy Farm Retreat & Conference Center and board member of LB Homes.

In addition to his wife, Helen, Herb is survived by his children: Paul Jacobsen, Lynn Nold, wife of Dan, and Jim Jacobsen, husband of Denise; 6 grandchildren: Sarah, Katy, Jake, and Josh Nold, and Cory and Justin Jacobsen; 5 great-grandchildren: Rory, Haakon, Maisy, Livvy and Theo; and siblings: John Jacobsen, husband of Ardis, Bob Jacobsen, husband of Shirley, and Arleen Dietrich, wife of Bill. Herb was preceded in death by an infant son, Donn Scott Jacobsen.

A celebration of life service will take place on Sunday, June 9 at Tuscarora Inn & Conference Center. We will begin gathering at 2 PM in the Senum-Thompson Center and the service will begin at 3 PM. All are encouraged to stay for dinner to follow.

Accommodations are available Sunday evening and can be reserved by clicking here.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial gifts be made to Tuscarora or Mount Bethel Church.

Herb was a true servant of Jesus Christ and a model of patience, kindness, gentleness and self control. He blessed us with his willingness to give my disabled  husband rides to then men’s activities at church. He and Helen mentored us with their example of love and commitment and took us under their wings in their caring. He will be missed.

What fond memories of Herb. He was the face of Tusc for me when I first started attending activities there. A first class gentleman, always a friendly greeting and a smile, his faith in Jesus was always evident.

I believe it was 1990 when my son, Michael Pellegrino, wanted to play T-Ball, and it was up to me to “make it happen”.   The Mt. Bethel Tee Ball organization was created with the help from many parents and owes its existence to the generosity of Herb Jacobsen who so kindly let us use the baseball fields at Tuscarora Inn and Conference Center for practices and games.   When I initially approached Herb with my request, he couldn’t have been any nicer or more accommodating to our group.   After the first year of 32 boys and girls who signed up, the following years had hundreds!    On behalf of myself and for all the children who have played on those fields – thank you Herb!   You truly were an angel in our time of need.   With my deepest sympathies to the family, sincerely, Judi Pellegrino.
