Henry S. Weber, Jr., 93

May 03, 2014

Henry S. Weber, Jr., 93, of Lititz went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, evening May 3, 2014. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Frances Mae in 2010; they had been married for 57 years.

Henry, born on December 12, 1920, in Lancaster County, was the son of the late Henry S. and Mary B. Weber. Henry spent most of his life in Lancaster County as a husband and father, businessman, and philanthropist.

Henry was a pilot who logged 23,500 hours and more than 4.1 million miles in the cockpit before retiring from flying at age 83. During the course of his life, Henry also designed and built homes before turning his passion for flying and aircraft into a successful full-time career as founder of Henry Weber Aircraft Distributors, Inc. In this role he received numerous awards and accolades, and his reputation in the general aviation industry is widespread even today.

In addition to flying, Henry’s interests included antique cars and trucks and playing Scrabble with friends and family.

As a successful Christian businessman, he was dedicated to giving back what the Lord had given him. Recipients of his stewardship included Grace College in Winona Lake, IN, where he served for many years on the Board of Trustees; Lancaster Bible College, where he served on the Corporate Board and Building Committee; Teen Challenge; Lititz Christian School; Grace Church in Lititz, PA, where he was a long-time member and served sixteen years on the Board of Elders; and the Association for Biblical Higher Education in Orlando, Florida.

He is survived by his children: Sylvia Gerz, wife of Stephen, Chris Weber, husband of Melanie, Joseph Weber, husband of Johanna, Anita Curry, and Francis Eileen Clare, wife of Dorn. In addition, he has two sons, Henry Weber III and Dennis Weber, from a previous marriage.

He is also survived by seven grandchildren and a great-granddaughter as well as numerous nephews and nieces.

A viewing will be held at Lititz Grace Church, 501 W. Lincoln Ave, Lititz, PA on Sunday, May 11, 2014 from 1:30-3:30PM with the Funeral Service to follow at 3:30PM. Condolences to the Family

My dad flew with Henry at the airport in  Mountville before Henry relocated to the Lancaster airport.  He also was my instructor when I took flying lessons at Garden Spot airport.  I remember one winter the 3 of us dropped corn  to some stranded cattle after a bad winter storm.  I was about 14-15 at the time.  I joined the Air Force in 1964 and I’m sure some of Henry’s guidance helped me.  I’m 76 now and will always remember him.

My deepest condolences to your family on the passing of Henry.  Henry piloted me on many occasions during my congressional service.  He was not only a great pilot, but a wonderful individual.  We had discussions about politics and the goings on in the world, and Henry always had some insightful comments.  His contributions to the community and the avaition fraternity will be long remembered.  Those of us who flew with him are grateful for the skills he used to safely land us and are confident that this last flight has landed him in the protective arms of the Heavenly Father.  May you be comforted by that same Heavenly Father.

It is with heavy heart that I learn of his passing. We shared a passion for flying, and it was a  privilege to fly for him. I’ll always remember the phone calls, “Mikey baby…, will ya do a trip for me ? I’ve already checked the weather.” He was a man of great character and integrity.

Henry was quite a man.  He was a loving husband to Frances as I had the privilege to witness first hand.  He was generous to the nth degree and was loved by most everyone he met.  I will miss our Scrabble games.  I’m not sure how many people play Scrabble in their 90’s AND score over 400 points!  He lived a long and industrious life.  His legacy will live on.  Sylvia, Chris, Joe, Anita, Eileen and the rest of the family, it was my pleasure to work for and spend timee with him for the years I did.  “And we know that in all this God causes ALL things to work together for them that love the Lord to those who are called according to His purpose. (Romans 8:28)  May the God of all comfort, be with you as you mourn his loss!
